There are several great characters on HBO’s "Game of Thrones" like Arya, the Stark Avenger, Jon Snow, the hot Lord Commander and Bran, the newest three-eyed Raven. However, there is one character that many have come to enjoy as she slowly, but surely takes back what is rightfully hers: Daenerys Targaryen. Since the first season, Daenerys has grown to be a woman we all know, admire and aspire to be. She is a prime example of a feminist and here’s why:
1. She’s compassionate.
In season two, Daenerys visited Slaver’s Bay where she saw the horrible conditions that the slaves were living under. Instead of allowing the slaves to suffer, she decided to take action against the wealthy slave owners. She understands what it is like to be a slave, thanks to her brother Viserys. In season one, Viserys sold her to Khal Drogo of the Dothraki as a wife in exchange for an army. It didn’t end so well for him.
2. She’s not afraid to say what she wants.
Several times, Khaleesi has expressed her true goal: to take back the Iron Throne. Her brother thought the throne belonged to him, but it truly belongs to the Mother of Dragons, Khaleesi. And to do so, she needed to gather an army and train them so that she will be able to overthrow the Baratheons who now control the throne.
3. She requires people to call her by her proper title.
Daenerys doesn’t have just one name, she has several: Daenerys Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lady Regent of the Seven Kingdoms, Protector of the Realm, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains and the Mother of Dragons. Although she has so many titles, she gains a ton of respect.
4. She uses her gender against the male characters.
Throughout the seasons, men have insulted Khaleesi because she was a woman. Instead of taking the insult, she throws it right back. She teaches women not to be afraid of your gender and to use it to your advantage. Some of them have become great quotes to use to inspire feminist power:
Daenerys is an inspiration to all women and some men, including the actor Jason Momoa, who played Khal Drogo in the show. Though he was sadly killed off of the show, he obviously still watches the show and supports her. This is known because he posted a picture of her on Instagram with the caption:
Prideofgypsies: "David and dan. I love ya what an honour. Greatest role I ever played. I love watching the moon of my life F*** sh*t up. @emilia_clarke Couldn't have done it better baby so proud. ALOHA j."
