An Open Letter To My Dad
Life 1025

Dear Dad,

I know I may not say it enough, but I really do love and appreciate you. You do a lot for me and for the rest of our family and I feel like sometimes I don’t let you know how thankful I really am to have you as my Dad. You’ve taught me a lot, and as much as I sometimes hate to admit it, you and I are a lot alike. I’m really lucky to have a Dad like you, and I wouldn’t trade you for anything.

Thank you for always protecting me.

Whether I realize it or not, you’ve always protected me from things that would hurt me. As I’ve gotten older, you’ve taught me how to protect myself. I don’t even think it was directly, it was all the little things you taught me that made me the strong person I am now.

Thank you for teaching me what to expect from any guy that comes into my life.

You taught me never to settle for less. You taught me that I deserve a guy who respects me and maybe even spoils me a little (or a lot). You’ve taught me that a guy opening a door for me should be something I come to expect, not something that I’m surprised at when it happens. You taught me what I deserve and I hope that one day I will be able to find someone who is as good to me as you are to Mom.

Thank you for always being there.

No matter what happens, I know that you’ll always be there for me. You’ve been one of the only people I could count on for a really long time. You never disappoint me and I know that if I really need you, you’ll be there no questions asked.

Thank you for always making me laugh.

As hard as I try to not laugh at your jokes, sometimes, you always know how to cheer me up. Whether you’re teasing me or just cracking a joke because you know I’m not having the best day, I know I can always come to you when I need to be cheered up.

Thank you for supporting me.

I know it can’t be easy to see your little girl going off on her own sometimes. Thank you for supporting my decisions and offering your advice when I need it. You’ve been there to support me through every event in my life whether it was big or small.

Thank you for being such an amazing dad. You’ve been one of the best role models I could have asked for. You taught me that I won’t get anywhere without hard work. You taught me to be independent and how to work things out for myself. Even though it didn’t seem like it, at times, you are truly one of the most important people in my life. You helped make me the person I am today and I know that if I ever need it, you’ll be there to help me pick myself up when I fall. Thanks for being the greatest Dad a girl could ask for.

Love,
Your daughter.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
