Anyone can be a father, but it takes a special kind of person to be a dad.
A dad is someone you can go to for advice. Dads give great hugs! A dad is someone who loves unconditionally and gives their all. Dads make you laugh until you cry, and they help wipe away unwanted tears, too.
Dads show what true strength is through their humble and selfless acts. They teach important life lessons that nobody else could all the while providing for the ones they love.
There is a special day dedicated for fathers and dads. It is a day full of gratitude and joy, but Father's Day means a lot of different things to people.
A single day representing one topic holds different meanings and values for people and families across the country. Not everyone has a traditional father figure in their lives. Some fathers are stepfathers. Some are your adopted fathers. Some families are separated, and others are as tight as a knot. Circumstances in life may change, but the love a dad has for his children will never change.
It is because of that love, I believe that anyone can be a dad! No, you did not read that wrong. Anyone can be a "dad" in your life!
Who in your life do you go to for advice? Who gives the best hugs and loves unconditionally? Who teaches you about this world, and who considers you to be their world? Are those not things that define a "dad"? The person in your life who does all of those things is just as much of a "dad" as any other dad on this earth!
This Father's Day, I challenge you to take a deeper look into how you celebrate. This day is not just for the traditional fathers out there. It is for the: coaches, pastors, mentors, teachers, brothers, grandfathers, uncles, stepfathers, adopted fathers, and single mothers. It is for anyone and everyone who loves you more than you know, just like a dad would love his child.
For those of you whose family is not a cookie-cutter mold of how a family "should" be, you can still celebrate Father's Day! I hope that looking at this day in a different light will show you just how many "dads" and people in your life truly care about you regardless of biology!
Today, and every day, thank the positive role models in your life. Think of the memories you have with them. Remember all they have taught you. Admire how they have loved you, and aspire to love others the same. Just because you may not be a father yourself, does not mean that you cannot be a "dad" in someone's life!
So, for all the dads out there, Happy Father's Day. We love you and appreciate all you do!
