To All Curly-Haired Girls — Not Your Mother's Curl Line Is The BEST Alternative To DevaCurl

- After the DevaCurl scandal, I needed new hair care products, but I was hesitant to try Not Your Mother's Curl Talk line after disliking a few of their other products.

- Just after one use, I saw an improvement in my hair. It was bouncy and shiny, with well-defined curls and, most importantly, zero frizz.

- Now, NYM's Curl Talk Frizz Control Sculpting Gel and Defining Cream are my go-to hair styling products.

We've all heard about the DevaCurl scandal that happened earlier this year. As soon as I read stories about women who had experienced hair loss, scalp issues, and other physical effects, I immediately stopped using all my DevaCurl products, even though I had never gotten any adverse reactions myself.

I needed a new set of hair care products, but there are so many out there to choose from. So, I researched and researched to find the ones worth trying.

I had heard a lot about the brand Not Your Mother's, especially their Curl Talk line, but I was hesitant to buy them because I had previously disliked their Tahitian Gardenia Flower & Mango Butter shampoo and conditioner. But since everyone online was raving about them, I decided to give their Defining Cream and Frizz Control Sculpting Gel a try.

I didn't hate them! In fact, I loved them.

These products are now my go-to DevaCurl replacements, as they're the only two products that have given me consistently great results like I used to get with DevaCurl.

My Favorite Products From The Line

The Defining Cream is lightweight and has a smooth feel, making it easy to distribute evenly throughout the hair. It adds shine and definition, creating clumped curls that last for days.

As for the Frizz Control Sculpting Gel, it is a clear formula with medium hold, perfect for my 2C-3A curls because it provides just enough hold without weighing my hair down. It's not at all crispy or flaky, and it leaves my hair touchably soft after I scrunch out any crunch from the gel cast.

How They Feel

One great benefit is that the entire Curl Talk line doesn't contain any sulfates, parabens, dyes, or drying alcohols. The line is also marketed as being suitable for all curl types, which is another reason why I recommend that curly girls try out this cream and gel for themselves.

I've always had pretty frizzy hair, and besides DevaCurl, only NYM's products can tame the halo of frizz that surrounds my hair. And, unlike some of SheaMoisture's products, this cream and gel don't leave any greasy residue in my hair, which is another positive.

I also love these products because they can extend my style. I usually have great hair on my wash day, but then poof- my hair's a frizzy tangled mess on days two, three, and four. But when I use the Defining Cream and Frizz Control Sculpting Gel, my style lasts 2-3 days without a refresh, which is amazing for me.

The Cons

One negative I found with NYM's products is the smell. It's a little strong and reminds me of cologne, but not in a good way; however, the smell dissipates after applying it onto your hair, so I would say people who don't appreciate stronger smells might still enjoy these products anyways.

Conclusion

At only $7.74 each, these curl products are incredibly affordable compared to other brands like Briogeo or Ouidad. I've only tried their cream and gel, but I've also heard great things about the rest of the line.

If you're only looking for some new styling products, then I recommend buying just the cream and the gel- they're enough to totally transform your hair.

Buy NYM's Curl Talk products from Walmart for $7.74 each.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
