What students can do on and off campus for free

Curing Financial Boredom

Financial Boredom: (adj.) the feeling of having nothing to do because you have no money.

Every time my friends want to hang out, it either involves going out to eat, going to a concert or watching a movie. All of these cost money, unless you are sneaking into the concert and dining then dashing out the door. However, contrary to popular belief, you do not need money to have fun in Huntington, West Virginia.

On campus, there are several things Marshall students are offered that are already included with the fees they are paying. In the Student Center basement there are several ping pong and pool tables that you and your friends can go and run. Then, in the Rec Center, there are basketball courts, wally ball, a swimming pool, hot tub, whirlpool and open studios for you and your friends to use however you want. The Rec is strategically placed by the residence halls for the students to use. Those are all things that you can do any time. The Marshall University Campus Activity Board offers many things throughout the whole school semester. Last year, they gave students free movie tickets to the Pullman Square Movie theater several times.

If you so happen to make your way off campus, Huntington has several things to show. The Heritage Station in Pullman Square has a train and rail car that many people like to take pictures with and admire. Inside of the heritage station, there are pictures and history of the building and of Huntington. Across the street, you can walk to Harris Riverfront Park. There, you can sit and watch the steam boats chug by, play on the playground, and enjoy the river view. There are several other parks in Huntington. The Rotary Park, off 29th Street, offers several trails, along with frisbee disk golf. The trails are paved and unpaved, whether you want to run or walk. The third park in Huntington is Ritter Park. Ritter Park has tennis courts, trails, a rose garden, and a beautiful view. Up the hill from Ritter Park is the Huntington Museum of Art. Every Tuesday, the museum offerers free admission, courtesy of Macy's. There are several cool things to view there and even a conservatory.

The last thing to remember about Marshall is all sporting events are free for students to come and watch. Whether you like football, soccer, basketball, baseball or softball, Marshall has an event for you and your friends to go watch every week. Plus you can go show your school pride for a chance to win freebies at the games.

Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, has something to offer everyone, whether you stay on campus or stray off campus. The best part about all these events is they can cure your financial boredom.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
