Recently, I have discovered the wonderful writer C.S. Lewis. I only knew who he was, but not much about him. As I have read many of his quotes, I have found them to be very profound and life changing. Here are just five that I think are some of the best quotes by the one and only C.S. Lewis:
1. "We are born helpless. As soon as we are fully conscious we discover loneliness. We need others physically, emotionally, intellectually...We need them if we are to know anything, even ourselves."
We all realize that at some point, we are alone. We all need someone to count on, someone who will be there for us no matter what. Other people better us and know us better than we know ourselves. It is so important to have relationships with people you love, and people that love you.
2. "What seems our worst prayers may really be, in God's eyes, our best. For these may come from a deeper level than a feeling...God sometimes seems to speak to us most intimately when he catches us, as it were, off our guard."
God speaks to us all the time if we are diligently in His word, growing in our knowledge of Him. The Lord can and will speak to us in our worst tragedy at the most interesting times. Always be listening to his still, small voice.
3. "There is but one good; that is God. Everything else is good when it looks to Him and bad when it turns from him."
When we turn from God and look to other things, our lives are taken off the path in which He intended for us. Especially when we go down the wrong road. Everything through Him is good, anything apart from the Lord is chaos.
4. "The question is not what we intended ourselves to be, but what He intended us to be when He made us."
God intended all of us to do something great. Something beyond what we ourselves think is possible. He has called us to do the impossible, because He can make it possible.
5. "I pray because I can't help myself. I pray because I am helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It does not change God; it changes me."
I pray because I'm weak. I know the Lord doesn't need me, but I need Him, and He is faithful to respond.
For someone who loves quotes as much as I do, C.S. Lewis' quotes appeal to me. C.S. Lewis was a man of God, and he was brilliant in many areas. I hope you can take away something small from each one of his quotes like I did.
