Why I Write For Odyssey

A small part of my week to week procedure that grounds me and allows for a creative atmosphere.

Week after week, I write some bogus article for Odyssey that barely picks up. I continue this unchanging writing style because on the occasion I do have a great idea, I want the ability to share it from a credible source. It is never for the pageviews or social shares but rather portfolio. My portfolio grows every week and whether the article/listicle is well written is all dependent on me. I accept that I am not always at my best. It keeps me writing creatively about whatever is on my mind. Unlike the narrow themes discussed in college classes, I have the ability to expand my horizons and my knowledge on anything I want. Today I am writing about Odyssey, but next week, I could be writing about the presidential campaign. However, do not hold your breath about that topic.

This online publishing company as I tend to describe it gives me the opportunity to write over the Summer and through winter breaks. When school is in session or not. If I am alone or with friends. Traveling to beach to write an article or sitting in the library I try to give myself a variety of environments to write in. Brainstorming ideas is much easier with the different atmosphere due to the newness of all the surroundings.

I have to admit that although the articles never really do well, I take pride in every single piece of work I have taken the time to write due to its authenticity. I have not tried to take from anyone or replicate anyone. I try to keep the ideas to myself but sometimes fall short and use a lifeline to get help from a friend. I think I continue to write them because I want to have some sort of final product. Whether it be an entire folder of random writes or some sort of makeshift writing resume; to say it is mine will be an amazing feeling.

Initiatives are given to those that get the most shares. I always thought it was a nice touch, but when I started to receive emails because I was not reaching a certain "page view", I lost my motivation. I am trying to improve my own writing by doing it day after day; not to get a million people to view it. Overtime, I have learned quite a bit about the way I write and formulate my ideas on to paper or computer screen. Odyssey has given me this tremendous opportunity and I love being able to write every week and have somewhere to post it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
