Some of these covers you may know. Some you may not! Although they may not be the originals, we love them all the same.

1. "Killing Me Softly"- Fugees.

The Fugees in "Killing Me Softly"

Everyone knows that "Killing Me Softly"is one of Fugees's most identifiable songs. Over time it's become an R&B classic, topping the Billboard R&B Charts. It also became The UK's best selling hit of 1996. The 1996 release even won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo. The song is loved for band member Lauryn Hill's smooth vocals, the sly percussion, and signature synth sitar sound. What many people don't recall is that the song is a cover. The original version was sung by Lori Lieberman and released in 1971. Since then, it has been covered over thirty times. The version by Fugees was actually a cover of the famous Roberta Flack 1973 cover. The cover is a perfect mesh of classic songwriting and the new direction of Hip-Hop music was moving at the time. To this day, "Killing Me Softly" is Fugee's most famous song and a must have in anyone's Neo-Soul playlist.

2. "The Beautiful Ones"/ "Sex On Fire"- Beyoncé.

Beyoncéheadlining Glastonbury (2011)

Queen Bey has plenty of great covers, I chose to include this one for those who were completely unaware of it. Beyoncé has proven time and time again that she's the master of any genre. In 2011 she while (being the first woman) headlining the Glastonbury Festival, she regaled us with a mash up of two incredible covers "The Beautiful Ones" by Prince and "Sex On Fire" by Kings Of Leon. "The Beautiful Ones" was released by Prince in 1984 on his famous "Purple Rain" soundtrack. The song has been covered many times. "Sex On Fire" was the first single of Kings Of Leon's fourth album "Only by the Night" and is one of their top singles to date. The song also earned the band their first-ever Grammy nomination and win for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 2008. Beyoncé channels her inner rock star with both tracks, flowing in between the two so easily. The performance is paired by heavy drum and guitar with Bey full force in front. Definitely a commendable cover!

3. "Fake Love" - Shawn Mendes.

This cover is soooooooo good. I know everyone is looking at the headline like what??? Shawn Mendes performed a guitar cover of Drake's "Fake Love" in 2016 for BBC Radio Live Lounge. The cover can only be found on their YouTube page. But again, it's excellent. Shawn has always been upfront about his admiration of Drake. This cover is the best of them both. Shawn does what he does best, guitar and microphone only.

Taking a straight up Gary Clark Jr., bluesy approach to the Hip-Hop song. You would never expect to like it so much. The vocals are butter, the vibe still captures the spirit of the song. "Fake Love" was the lead single off of Drake's 2017 album "More Life." The song reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Shawn brings a new face that makes you love a song you already loved more!!

4. "Thinkin' Bout You"- Tori Kelly.

Y'all remember back in the day when everybody was covering Frank Ocean's "Thinking Bout You?" Well, this is the song that made Tori Kelly famous. Tori has been grinding in the music industry for years, auditioning for American Idol, releasing dope EPs, and YouTube covers like this! She dropped her cover of "Thinking Bout You" 2012 and it went viral. The video has over 20 millions views. It was shot on her iPhone, just her, Angie Girl on vocal percussion, and Tori's trusty guitar. Her rendition is simple, straight forward, good ol' music.

We love it because no one can dispute the talent. Tori is really in her element, giving us incredible vocals all the way through. The song was originally recorded by Frank Ocean for his "Channel Orange" album. It was the album's highest charting single and it notoriously popular in the R&B world. Rolling Stone even named it the 4th best song of 2012. The song has been covered by literally everybody: Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, The Jonas Brothers. It's so well done, and Tori just reminded us why.

5. "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" - Miley Cyrus.

I think we all agree that there is something so special about Miley Cyrus singing country music. Only true Miley Cyrus fans know that she ever recorded this track. "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" was a cover recorded for Amnesty International on "Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International". The cover is brilliant, reminding us all what a talent Miley is.

Her voice brings a youthful honestly to the track. It taps into classic Country music; accompanied by soft guitars. Miley's voice is at the forefront and you couldn't ask for more. The entire sound just feels right. The Bob Dylan original was released in 1975 on his "Blood on the Tracks" album. It has been called "Dylan's most fully realized masterpiece, crammed with lyrical blood and thunder and piercing observations." Both versions of the song are sensational.

6. "The Way You Look Tonight" - Michael Bublé.

Michael Bublé Live

Michael Bublé is a master of classic jazz covers. This one is my personal favorite. His rendition of "The Way You Look Tonight" is the embodiment of romance. Light a candle, run a bath, pour some wine, and put this track on! Bublé works magic with this silky smooth arrangement. The whole thing is like lying on rose pedals or something. It's delicate in every way. Each note Michael sings is a gentle kiss on top of the piano, saxophone, and percussion. "The Way You Look Tonight" was written for and sang by Fred Astaire. It was released in 1936 for his film "Swing Time." That year, the song won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. The song has been covered hundreds of times by many notable names: Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, and even Maroon 5. The song itself is nothing but a classic, whatever version you listen to. It sounds like falling in love.

7. "Cinderella"- "The Cheetah Girls".

The Cheetah Girls in "Cinderella"

When I figured out this song was a cover, it did ruin my entire childhood. That doesn't mean I don't love it all the same. "Cinderella" was released as the first single off "The Cheetah Girls" movie soundtrack in 2006. We know the song as iconic feminist bop that it is. The song serves us power, vocals, and that unforgettable early 2000s sound. This wasn't a typical Disney Channel sound. The Cheetah Girls (Raven-Symoné, Adrienne Bailon, Kiely Williams, and Sabrina Bryan) gave us four-part harmony, real choreography, and all the diva-ness of an actual girl group. It didn't get more serious than this. The cold, hard truth is that "Cinderella" was originally recorded by girl group i5 (International 5). The group released the song for their first and only album in 2000. They later disbanded in 2001. Disney and The Cheetah Girls swooped the song up and changed our lives for the better. Cover or no cover, when this song is on, I'm dancing!

8. "She Looks So Perfect"- Ed Sheeran.

Yet another obscure YouTube cover that everyone in the world should listen to. Ed Sheeran has stolen the world's hearts by being flat out perfect. His cover of "She Looks So Perfect" is so good it might make your head explode. Ed recorded the cover for Capital FM Radio in 2014. It's classic Ed, just him and his guitar, changing our lives. You hear all the beautiful dimensions of Ed's voice, the falsetto, the chest belt, the gentle, and the heavy! The song, "She Looks So Perfect" was recorded by band Australian 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS). It was the lead single of their 2014 self-titled debut album. The song peaked at number one in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and The United Kingdom. 5SOS pushed out a great Punk Pop hit. Ed's cover flips the entire song on its head. It's stripped down and offers an easier, sincere feel with just the guitar. If you love the original, or just love Ed Sheeran, you should definitely give this cover a listen.

9. "Same Ol' Mistakes"- Rihanna.

Rihanna in "Same Ol' Mistakes"

This cover was so left field. I doubt that most Rihanna fans are listening to Tame Impala as well. What's crazy, is the song works so well for Rihanna. "Same Ol' Mistakes" was slid into Rihanna's most recent 2016 album "Anti". The song is a completely new sound from what we expect from RiRi. It's trippy and floaty, but in a way she's never been. The 6-minute track is a psychedelic, stoner journey. The heavy bass line and Rihanna's whispered vocals captivate us all the way through. You kinda don't notice how long the song is. It's also a break for the usual R&B direction of her music.

The original "New Person, Same Ol' Mistakes" is the final track on Australian Electropop band Tame Impala's 2015 album "Currents". The song itself was never released as a single. The album did reach number four on the Billboard Hot 200. If you know Tame Impala, you know their sound! It's very flowy, stream of conscious like. Rihanna really doesn't stray much from the original sound. All in all, it's the song cover you didn't know you needed until now.

10. "I Will Always Love You"- Whitney Houston.

Whitney Houston in "I Will Always Love You"

Over twenty years later, this is arguably the greatest song cover of all time. Whitney Houston released her version of "I Will Always Love You" in 1992, as the lead single for her film "The Bodyguard" soundtrack. The sound spent 14 consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and is one of the best-selling singles of all time. There is no explaining the perfection of this song. Whitney Houston is one of the most revered vocalists in music history. The fact that she's singing is enough. Her voice just melts over the arrangement and takes the song to a new level.

The genius instrumentation in the background just tops it off. "I Will Always Love You" was written and released by Dolly Parton in 1974. Her country version reached number one on the Country charts twice: 1974 and for it movie re-release in 1982. Don't be fooled, Dolly's version was an incredible success. Years before Whitney's revamp. Whitney's R&B version shifted the face of an already brilliant song and made it brilliant in a different way. There is not a dimension, a time continuum, or a version of life where this song isn't absolutely stunning.

I love these classic covers. What song cover is your favorite?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
