The following conversation has taken place on multiple occasions, endlessly, and without exaggerations.
Me: "What's your favorite genre of music?"
An acquaintance (unfortunately, that's all you are): "Anything but country."
Me: *Has a silent panic attack, hyperventilates, and almost causes a zombie apocalypse*
Sure, country music always has a similar vibe but that's what makes it special. I can guarantee you that it is far from "dull." In contradiction to that common response, here are my reasons as to why country is the best genre.
1. The songs are on point, and they always have a catchy tune.
My favorite country song is "H.O.L.Y." by Florida Georgia Line. Every time it plays, I can vividly picture the image of being at a concert. Cowboy hats, iPhone flashlights, southern accents, and line dancing. "High on loving you..." Goals, am I right or am I right?
2. It's honest, and the majority of the songs are originals, written by the artist.
Although she doesn't write country anymore, Taylor Swift has continued to make a name for herself as a sensational songwriter. Her writing is what made her so successful and is what continues to make her music so unique. Thank you to "Our Song," "Love Story," and "You Belong With Me."
3. It tells a story.
"The House That Built Me" by Miranda Lambert. Give it a listen, then hit me up on my cell. We can schedule an appointment to discuss the pound worth of water you cried off.
4. The lyrics are witty.
"Follow Your Arrow" by Kacey Musgraves. Wonderful lesson, inappropriate lyrics. Which, by the way, could not be more comical.
5. Top down, summer road trips are just everything.
Self-explanatory. There's nothing better than a route 80 road trip with your closest friends, blasting your country girl classics. Man, I feel like a woman!
If one more individual tells me they listen to "anything but country" again, I just might have a seizure and pull out every strand of my hair. And theirs, too. Catch me passed out on your living room carpet. In all seriousness, try to give country music a chance. It's not as "dull" as you may presume if you're willing to listen deeply.
