There are 10 days until Thanksgiving, but the countdown for college kids has begun last week! Here are 10 reasons why we are anxiously awaiting our flights home and constantly asking each other when they get to leave! Don't get me wrong, 12 days of Christmas is a little more exciting, but going home for the first time for most is a pretty exciting event for us college kids (especially as a freshman!). Here're 10 reasons why we are sitting at the edge of our chairs trying to be patient!

1. The 12 days of Christmas are right around the corner.

I mean it's officially the holiday season and with Halloween behind us, Christmas is quickly approaching; therefore let the family time begin and the holiday cheer evident everywhere!

2. Be in a HOME.

Who doesn't love being in a home where the carpet is fluffy and there is furniture and warmly painted walls that make things feel cozy?? Plus the things our dorms can't have like your pets and a full kitchen and even a fireplace!

3. Your own bed

There is nothing better than finally being able to fall asleep in your own bed, with your own blankets. You are finally in your own space, where no one can bother you, wake you up or prevent you from going to sleep. Plus, you can sleep without worrying about rolling off the top bunk and die- we all know that it is a legitimate fear as a college student.

4. Family

The family is a hard thing to leave for long periods of time, but now we get to be together, which makes the time apart feel like no time at all. FaceTime is great and all, but you don't get the hugs and kisses through it like you want, nor can you wrestle for the best spot on the couch.

5. Friends

Being 1,068 miles from your hometown best friends is hard because we don't get to talk like you do when you live on the street. We don't get to walk down the street and see them whenever. Friends from home are forever and seeing them is pure gold!

6. Thanksgiving Dinner

Now this could be considered the mother load for college kids who eat campus food every day. Not only is this homemade food, but there is A LOT of it and such good family styled food! This dinner will be talked about when we get back to school bragging about our families traditions and how good we ate!

7. No school work

Whether you get a few days off or an entire week, I'm beyond grateful for not stressing over Discussion Questions due, or turning in my papers before midnight! And no homework means no tests too! It's a much-needed break to keep us college students sane!

8. Free Food

Now I know the words "free food" will draw attention of college kids anywhere! Now when you are at home and you aren't having to constantly budget your meal plan it is a relaxing break- plus your pantry is open all night and just a few short paces away!

9. Traveling

I don't know about everyone else but I'll take any bit of traveling that I can being a college student; busy and on a budget! Perfect time to read my book or write a paper on the plane and see the world from the sky! Heck even if you are driving you get to see the scenery that makes each town their own!

10. Weather at home

Whatever the weather is at home I'm sure you all miss it! Whether its the cold, the rain, or the snow we all have things we miss about home. Maybe it's the smell of tree's or the mountains- either way there's things that make somewhere special to you and moving away may have been the only time you noticed you enjoyed the rain or that you actually love the smell of trees!

"I've only slept nine hours over the past four days, so I'm right on the verge of a nervous breakdown." - Leslie Knope

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
