Count Your Blessings

In light of recent events, I have really had time to reflect on my life. I have come to realize that I have so many things that I take for granted each and every day. I know that I am not the only one who struggles with this. I don't know if anyone will ever truly be able to fully grasped how blessed we are, but you understand my point. I have heard of many shocking and saddening news the past few weeks. I have seen people struggle and hurt, and I found myself hurting with them. I have come to realize that the world we live in can be a very hateful and evil world.

But lets not forget the good.

I understand that it is very easy to complain. It is very easy to find the bad things that are happening and focus solely on those. However, while there is a lot of evil, there are also so many things that are good. Each and every one of us have so many things in our lives that we should be thankful for. As messed up as our country can be, we still have a lot of rights that many people in this world don't. Most all of us have a house, full bellies, clothes, people who love us, and basic needs to get us through the day. We may not have these things in an abundance, but they are there.

It is so easy to loose sight of these things. It is hard to forget that there are people who would die to be in our lives. I complain about working all the time, while I know so many people who would love to work. I get stressed out about having school work, when there are kids who will never receive a proper education. The things that we often complain about are things that were given to us.

I know first hand how easy it is to spend your whole life worrying. I overthink everything and often spend my time worrying about a scenario that would never ever happen. We get so caught up in the worldly things and what so and so is saying on twitter, that we forget to open our eyes to the things we are blessed with.

Growing up in the Tennessee mountains gives you an immediate appreciate for nature. We live in a beautiful world, and evil may live here with us, but it doesn't make it less beautiful. And believe it or not, there are actually still good people out there. I come in counter with them sometimes, and they make the evil seem like it isn't there. It is the people who automatically brighten up a room when they walk in, and are so selfless that they never even think of how a situation could effect them.

Evil does live in this world with us. It is scary and very sad. Even though our news outlets are solely focusing on that, try to focus on what you are blessed with. You have a life that someone else dreams of having. Don't waste it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
