 If you are trying to decide your major, it is always helpful to have some kind of idea about what kind of career you want to have. Without this in mind, you could end up in a major that pigeonholes you into something that you really don’t enjoy. But if you can’t figure out exactly what you want to do, there are some majors that allow for a little more flexibility than others that could help you figure everything out.

Business Administration

Perhaps the most versatile degree of them all is adegree in business. For someone who is planning on starting their own business, a degree in business is always a smart choice. You could find that you are qualified for management positions in just about any industry with this type of degree, or you could work in marketing, project management, or a host of other industries. A business degree is also a good undergraduate degree for those who are planning on attending graduate school. 

Communications

Communications degrees are wildly popular, and there are lots of things that you can do with one of these degrees. The skills that you learn in communications lend themselves very well to avariety of media careers, but they also give you the communication skills that are heavily valued by a lot of industries. You could choose to seek a career in journalism, or you could look for work in the television or radio industries. You could also seek a job in public relations or even event planning with a communications degree. 

Nursing

Getting a degree in the healthcare field can be a smart career move, and many people find that working in healthcare is incredibly fulfilling. With a nursing degree, there are a variety of areas that you can work in. You can work in a hospital, doctor’s office, care facility, school, or in your patient’s homes. There isactually a high demand for nurses right now, so you can usually get your pick of jobs and a very good starting salary. Each job is a slightly different environment, which allows you to find something that will fit well with you.

Education

Depending on what you are interested in and how much of an education you pursue, there isa host of things that you can do with an education degree. You could choose early childhood education and could work in a daycare facility or at a preschool. You could go to school for elementary education and work with elementary school students, or you can pursue a job as a middle or high school teacher. Working as an instructor at a community college or as a professor at a college or university could also be good options. You could find that working in adult education and helping people to earn their GED or helping adults who are learning how to read is very fulfilling work as well.

Many people with education degrees actually travel overseas to teach English to foreign students, or you could work in a tutoring facility or as a tutor on the side. If you have children at home and would like to have flexible hours, you could work as a tutor online, or you could look into substitute teaching.

Computer Science

If you love working with computers, you might find that a degree in computer science is perfect for you. There aremany different things that you can do with a computer science degree; you could choose to run your own web design, graphic design or digital marketing firm, or you could work as a freelancer who does these things. You could also secure a job making apps or software programs, providing IT services for major corporations and more.

Choosing the right degree program can be challenging. One thing that you might be looking for is a degree that will give you plenty of career flexibility. These are a few of the degrees that you may want to look into if you'd like to get an education and leave yourself with plenty of options for your future.
