When you are in college, anything free or discounted is where you will find the majority of students located because who doesn't like a deal? The best days for the SIUE students are the first and last Tuesday of the month in Edwardsville and Glen Carbon when it's Cougar Tuesday.
The reason? Dairy Queen is 50 percent off to all college students who show a student ID. Happy Cougar Tuesday! Honestly, my life wouldn't be the same. I never thought that I could love a chicken strip basket more, but it definitely tastes better when it's 50 percent off.
Recently, the federal government is requiring that calorie counts appear on menu boards, to represent that products are being precisely portrayed to the customers. This method is required because the federal government does not want customers to be deluded about what the customers are actually eating at restaurants.
Unfortunately, that comes with a loss of "Gooey" Cheese from Dairy Queen's product line. "Gooey" Cheese was a popular product in the Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, and Granite City areas.
The Glen Carbon Dairy Queen store owner Robby Steen, recently stated this from his Facebook page, "We have no say in this, at this point we can not even order it from our suppliers. We have been told that we must stop selling it by April 1, 2016 but we have not been able to order any anyway. Unless there is some change in policy that allows us to keep it long term it will likely never return."
Which in turn sparked an interesting conversation between SIUE student Mallory McCune and the DQ Glen Carbon Twitter account.
SIUE student Mallory McCune, as you can see was devastated by this news. She continued to tweet at the Glen Carbon DQ in hopes that they could figure out what to do.
Glen Carbon Dairy Queen and all Dairy Queens, what is the next gravy? Will Mallory McCune be won back? Is there an alternative? Will "Gooey" Cheese make a comeback?
Until next time at Cougar Tuesday....
