When I was younger every Friday night I would come home from swim practice, change into my pajamas, eat pizza, and sit down with my parents and brother and together we would all watch “Monk” and “Psych”, it was one after the other and I was glued to the TV for the next two hours. Besides “Wheel of Fortune” these were the only two TV shows my family could watch together. Lately, being away at college I have missed my Friday night cop shows with my family, and I wish that I just had one more season of those two shows. Thinking about it more, I wish there were just a few more cop shows that had one more season that I could binge watch all day and re-live just like I did when I was younger.
1. "Psych" (2006-2014): Executive Producers- James Roday and Dule Hill.
Why we need one more season—We all need to laugh a little more, and this show is perfect. The writing was amazing, Roday and Hill really know how to write funny lines, and their on screen friendship was great to watch. They were so creative with the nicknames, and so creative with the little one lined phrases. Also, how many shows hide pineapples around their set? It was just pure genius and I could use a new episode right about now.
2. "Monk” (2002-2009): Executive Producers- David Breckman and Andy Hoberman; Starring Tony Shalloub.
Why we need one more season—Because who doesn’t love a good OCD, afraid of everything, socially anxious, detective? I know I do! Monk was arguably one of the most unique cop shows to ever air. Tony Shalloub was an amazing actor in this show, I could not have pictured anyone else playing this role because he did everything flawlessly. The other actors also did an outstanding job every time they were on set with him, they never got comfortable with his quarks and it made it way more enjoyable to watch. We need to have creativity like this back on tv, and if they could play the re-runs on tv again, that would be fantastic because I really miss this show.
3. "Leverage” (2008-2012): Executive Producers- Dean Devlin, John Rogers, Chris Downey, Marc Roskin
Why we need one more season—Because this show was just so smart. They were the 21st century robin hoods and the crimes they committed were flawless and creative. The chemistry between the team was humorous and great to watch. Everyone brought something different to the group and it made for a perfect team. I could go for one more season of “Leverage”, it would be great to watch again.
4. "The Defenders” (2010-2011): Executive Producers-- Harry Gantz, Joe Gantz, Kevin Kennedy, Niels Mueller, Carol Mendelsohn
Why we need one more season—This show was only on for one season and it broke my heart when it stopped. It had seriousness, comedy, and good crimes. It took you into the life of two defenders in Las Vegas, Nevada, and it gave you a whole new perspective into the world of law. I would love another season to see where it could go, I feel like every show deserves at least three seasons. This show definitely needed a few more episodes to really establish themselves.
5. "White Collar”(2009-2014): Executive Producers-- Jeff Eastin, Jeff King, Mark Goffman, Nick Theil
Why we need one more season—I loved the concept and I want more episodes. It was nice to see how the other half lives, I loved looking at the pretty artwork, and the dynamics between Neil and Peter were very interesting to watch. This is a show that was amazing from the beginning, and I just didn’t want it to end.
6. "Burn Notice” (2007-2013) Executive Producers-- Matt Nix, Mikkel Bondensen, Jeff Freilich
Why we need one more season—This show had a lot of action, was set in a warm place, and had attractive actors, need I say more? I mean it didn’t really matter that the acting was mediocre because the show was just very visually pleasing. I mean I wouldn’t mind sitting in a doctor’s office with the show in Spanish, as long as I got another season I would be fine with it.
7. "Dexter” (2006-2013) Executive Producers-- Daniel Cerone, Sara Colleton, Charles H. Eglee, and John Goldwyn
Why we need one more season—We all need a show that is a little twisted and weird, and “Dexter” is definitely it. It was bizarre and weird but it just completely captured you and before you knew it you were glued to the TV. There are not many shows on right now that do that, and I think that we need have one, my suggestion to the TV world is to bring this show back!
8. "Pushing Daisies” (2007-2009) Executive Producers-- Bryan Fuller, Barry Sonnerfield, Dan Jinks, Bruce Cohen, Brooke Kennedy, Peter Ocko.
Why we need one more season—This show was a show that was kind of weird and kind of cool. The love connection between the main characters was absolutely precious, and it was kind of sad show as well. I just feel like this show needed a few more seasons because it needed to really establish itself. If the world of TV doesn’t want to give us one more season, can they at least put on re-runs please?
I know I am living in a fantasy, but I guess all I really want is shows that are more creative. I want TV to start becoming more interesting and not so basic. There are so many things we can do with TV and cinema and we are not really exploring our options that much. I suggest while we take time to collaborate and create new shows that we put re-runs of these shows on. Just to keep us calm.
