“Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting, and autumn a mosaic of them all.” - Stanley Horowitz
Take a moment and imagine with me that feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you finish a project or a book or a TV series or an assignment that had taken up a lot of time a priority in your life. That feeling of satisfaction mixed with relief, accomplishment, and a little bit of sorrow. You feel delighted for completing a task which you had dedicated yourself to; but if you thoroughly enjoyed what you did, you also feel a bit of sadness over the fact that you no longer get to do that thing you had come to love. This mixture of feelings is what makes up the third season of life each of us goes through - Autumn.
Autumn is the season of life in which things come to an end. Things start to change and in this time we have the chance to sit back and reflect on the lessons we have learned. These lessons can come from anywhere and anyone. From our parents and elders to nature itself. The “life lessons” are the kind that mold us and shape us into who we are going to be in the next seasons of our lives. If we choose not to take our time and learn from these opportunities given to us, we will not be as successful as we would be by heeding those lessons.
We also have the chance to reap the benefits of our labors from the preceding seasons. During the previous seasons, we work to make our lives and the lives of those we love easier and more enjoyable. In this season, all of our hard work pays off and we can finally relax.
In this season, we celebrate life as some chapters of our lives begin to end. Endings aren’t always happy and they aren’t always what we want. However, with every ending comes a new beginning. Don't fret about what is gone, look forward to what is yet to start!
Just as the leaves on the trees change colors during autumn, we also change in this season. We grow and mature during this time in our lives. We use our experiences, advice, lessons learned, and prayer to mature into not only wise adults but also better leaders, children, husbands, wives, co-workers, bosses, servants, and friends.
Autumn is not only a beautiful season in regards to the earth, but it is also a beautiful season in our lives. Autumn in the combination of all the good, the bad, and the ugly from the seasons before. Autumn is a time for us to grow though learning to love ourselves and those around us. Use this season in your life to become a better version of you and learn from your past.
