Obstacles. This word carries weight. For the longest time, I viewed obstacles as something negative or like a roadblock in my way. Strangely enough, as I have gotten older, I have come to realize that obstacles are a necessary evil. Ultimately, they are unavoidable because life is unpredictable. Other people, things, and circumstances are completely out of your control.

The word obstacle is defined as "a thing that blocks one's way or prevents or hinders progress." There were times I believed that my high school experience was an obstacle. Certain classes were uninteresting or useless for my career goals. The confines of the building itself seemed frustrating and limiting. Classmates oftentimes seemed to be heading in a completely different direction, which was a distraction and sometimes a disappointment.

I found myself having to overcome many obstacles. If I found something interesting, I would read it because school didn't give me what I wanted to read. I researched dream jobs that would challenge me, but also would allow me to still love going to work. I surrounded myself with adults who supported me and were incredible role models to look up to. All of these choices resulted in me conquering many of the obstacles that stood in my way.

Throughout life, we experience feelings of pure bliss and utter defeat. What you chose to do with those feelings is up to you. What makes you feel alive? Answer that question honestly, and start a new path to a happier and healthier life.

Being challenged and having to overcome obstacles is a normal part of life. You won't always find a way around them quickly, but in time you will get past them. Don't rush your way through, and stay positive. At the end of the day, the only person stopping you is you. Believe in yourself.

My faith has always been my solid ground. I leaned on God to get me through my toughest days. My mom always used to tell me, "God never hands you something you can't handle." This saying stuck with me. It helped me overcome many of life's obstacles. With the support from my amazing friends, family, teachers, and a strong relationship with God, I felt the courage to conquer my obstacles head on.

Everyone experiences fears, challenges, and roadblocks. But they aren't always negative. These experiences make you stronger and give you stronger appreciation for life when it's calm. Trust in yourself, be kind to yourself, and remember you can conquer anything that stands in your way.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
