When coming to college, I was excited to experiment with new and exciting things I have not done before. One of these long anticipated events was Thirsty Thursday. Based on numerous Instagram posts with #thirstythursday almost always in the caption, it looked to be pretty fun. But, what these Instagram posts didn’t show is the preparation, energy, and extreme stamina needed to survive the typical Thirsty Thursday. Here are a couple of tips that will most definitely ensure not only survival, but a good night for all on Thirsty Thursday as we prepare to go back to college soon.
First and foremost, have a positive attitude! There is no point in going through the whole process of picking out the perfect outfit, finding the right shoes, doing your hair, and putting on makeup just to have an “okay” night. It’s sometimes easy to allow one setback to ruin the night. Instead, smile, take tons of pictures, and take anything college throws at you with an open mind. We’re meant to explore and make crazy decisions as college students, especially on Thirsty Thursday. A memorable and unexpected night is a successful night.
As the name accurately portrays, participants in Thirsty Thursday are, indeed, thirsty. The long anticipated weekend is finally in sight and students at SU are so excited to celebrate. It’s easy to go overboard and ignore your limits while pre-gaming with your new friends, so just remember to stay safe and aware. Surround yourself with a responsible group of people that you can trust to take care of as you would with them. Limit yourself, and make sure your friends limit themselves too. ‘Cuse students take pride in their ability to recognize a potentially dangerous situation. After all, we’re all looking to have a great, well-deserved night.
Next, for your own personal sanity, make sure your phone is charged! Not only will you want to tweet, snap, or Instagram the memories from the night that you’re having, but it’s also extremely important to stay in touch with your friends through the night. You definitely don’t want one of your friends to get separated from the group. Trust me: charge your phones; you won’t regret it. (And honestly, how much would you hate yourself if you missed a last minute invite to a crazy party because your phone died?)
Lastly, if you have Friday classes, make sure you take care of yourself. After a crazy Thirsty Thursday, the last thing we want to do is wake up and sit in calculus class (but we don’t let this stop us, obviously). When choosing to go out on a Thursday night, set your alarm clock with enough time to get up, get ready, take aspirin, and grab a cup of coffee before your first class.
With another school year quickly approaching, college students definitely need a few tips and reminders as they ease back into college life. With these tips, you’ll be sure to have many memorable Thirsty Thursdays that will definitely live up to your expectations this semester!
