Congress Should Not Have The Right To Monitor Women's Bodies

Pulling federal funding from clinics that provide abortions is a new low.

Despite being about 51% of America's population, women only make up 19% of the 115th (current) congress. Without ample representation, Congress should definitely not be able to make decisions about abortion, planned parenthood, and other things that primarily affect women. But they shouldn't be able to make these decisions anyway.

As American citizens, we have the right to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and so much more. But women do not have the right to make decisions about our own bodies.

Last night, Mike Pence broke a tie in the Senate allowing for a bill to pass which gives the states permission to refuse to provide federal family planning funds to Planned Parenthood as well as any other abortion providers.

This also doesn't just affect women, it affects their families as well. And the male dominated congress should have no right to do this. They will never need to get an abortion. They'll never have a baby that's killing them, or that they can't afford or that is a result of rape. They'll never understand.

The senate is called the "Millionaire's Club" for a reason. These people can't relate to having a baby that they can't afford. They can't relate to a lot of things everyday Americans go through, yet they make all these decisions for us anyway.

They say that they're protecting life, but all they care about is using irrelevant traditions and justifications of centuries past to protect a bundle of cells. If they really cared about life, they would want to help the women who are already trying to live full lives that now would be halted thanks to this bill.

And the Republicans are no longer trying to compromise. They will try and pass what they want with no consideration for the other side because they have a friend in the White House and are in control of both houses.

They could've made a bill to pull federal funding for women who get abortions after a certain time period when the baby actually is "alive". After all, that's the weak concept they're trying so desperately to hold onto in order to justify the way they're hurting these women who are carrying babies.

But no, they didn't even do that. If a place only does an abortion for the first trimester, they're still getting their funding cut. That complete lack of compromise is no way to run congress or the country.

Democrats are guilty of this black and white partisanship too but they're not the ones in control of both houses of congress and the White House.

I hope that against all instincts, against everything we know about him, that President Trump finds it in his heart to veto this cruel bill. But I know that's not going to happen.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
