I know many of you are seniors in high school, anticipating graduation day, but I want to share a few words of advice, some things I personally learned: Be patient and enjoy it! I know it is easier said than done, but looking back, you will wish you had slowed down to enjoy these last days.
My senior year, I was beyond ready to graduate; I was looking forward to packing my bags and heading on to college. Because of this, I did not enjoy the last few memories to the fullest, especially those with my closest friends.
I participated in the traditional senior events and did everything I figured I should, but honestly, I wish I would have spent more time enjoying the last month of high school. During these last few weeks, there are several things you should take the time to do.
1. Thank your teachers for everything they have done for you.
It may be strange, but this is an important thing to do. I know it seems like all they do is provide piles of homework and constantly give tests, quizzes, projects and finals review work. Yes, they do assign a lot of work, but they did this to teach you not only about that subject, but also about yourself.
You learned how to manage your time, handle homework and study for tests and exams. In the end, your teachers really do care about you and want the best for you, even if you don't see it at the time. Be sure to thank them for everything they have done.
2. Embrace your time to shine and graciously accept recognition.
These next few weeks, there will be final performances, concerts, shows, banquets and gatherings, to name a few. All of your hard work these past four years has finally paid off. This is your moment to receive appreciation for your dedication. Enjoy it. You deserve the recognition for all of your hard work and commitment to this group.
These events may very well be the last time you will get to see your closest friends who have become your family.
3. Get the most out of your senior prom.
In this final month of your high school career, you get to attend your last prom. It is the final time where you get to dress up and go out with your closest friends and enjoy an evening away from studying. Take a step back and embrace every moment you can.
4. Take many pictures this last month.
There are many huge events that will occur in the next few weeks. Be sure to capture these moments of joy in your life! When you grow up, you can pull out these pictures and look back, smile, laugh and remember these memories.
Now, go out, make memories and enjoy the last moments of your senior year. Congratulations to the Class of 2016!
