I Am A Proud Parent

I Love My Puppies Like They Were My Own Kids

I Am A Proud Parent

With the pressure that society puts on women to pop out so many children to repopulate the Earth at a rapid rate, and with my chronic melancholic attitude towards this situation, I give up. You win, society. You have pressured me enough to quit taking my birth control, destroy all the condoms in the world, and become pro-life. Damn, line me up straight away to get pregnant. Here comes the baby stuff!

Ha. Ha ha. Ha ha ha ha. HA.

Fooled you, didn't I? I'll be the first one to tell you that I don't plan on having kids, and whenever the subject comes up of when I want to have kids, I always get a bit squeamish. Why do I have to push out children to be validated as a woman? Why can't I just come out of my mother's birth canal, be presented as girl, and if I'm comfortable as said gender, why can't it just be that simple? Why do I have to prove myself as a valued member of the gendered society if I have a baby?

Well, do I have news for you!

I am a parent. A proud parent. To two little girls. One is four, and one is going to be two. They're nice, small, and they're sisters. They hang out all the time, and they're always there for me whenever I need them. I give my little girls food, clothes, and all of the affection that they want. I brush their hair, bathe them, and take them on walks. You know, I buy them quality food and buy them treats. I make sure that their fur is nice and fluffy.

Wait a minute. Fur? Treats? Going on walks? What kind of children do you have?

Jokes on you. I'm a dog parent. I am the proud parent of two little puppies, Chanel Avery and Gracie Mae. We bought Chanel when she was eight weeks old in 2012, and we then bought her sister (not biological) in 2014 because Chanel was becoming depressed that she didn't have anyone to play with. I love my little girls. My mudskups. My cupcakes. My boogers. You get the point.

I don't plan on having children. I don't want them. I want dogs. All the dogs. Deal with it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
