Confessions Of A Summer Scholar As Told By "The Parent Trap"

For many college students, the anticipation of the month of May is what propels us through the semester. Exams are done, classes are over, and the promise of drinking out of solo cups on the beach is just outside our grasps. However, for a select few unfortunate souls, spring semester was the least of our worries. Welcome to the Summer Session. What was unbearable in fifteen weeks, now just turned down right impossible as our professors pack that punch into six miserable weeks. The cast of "The Parent Trap" knows our struggle and are here to help.

1. Summer Plans

When you have to gently remind your friends that you have class everyday, and therefore, cannot go to the beach.

2. First Day of Class

You: pictured in the middle; Your professor: pictured on the right
The mental freak out as you're going over the syllabus and realize your (summer) life is over. Twelve quizzes, two tests, and three papers in six weeks?

3. Interacting with Classmates

To survive a textbook filled summer, it is absolutely necessary to recruit an ally. You'll usually be able to recognize her the second you walk into class (she'll be the only normal looking one). Over the next six weeks this girl will become your partner in crime. She'll assist you with the in-class sarcastic comments, late night study sessions, and will listen to your complaints about the Suck-up Sally of the room. Which brings us to our next point, dealing with the Suck-up Sally of the room. This girl is also extremely recognizable from Day 1. She has already memorized the textbook along with all of your professor's favorite past times. But how annoying is she really?

4. Note Taking

Classes in the summer are usually upwards of two hours. Rightfully so, most of us lose interest within the first 30 minutes in which we then must continue to pretend taking notes. And when our professor asks if anyone has any questions, we just respond with:

5. Receiving Grades

With most of the test information being covered only a few days before, finding time to study and retain it is exceedingly difficult. Grades, especially on the first test, will be staggeringly low. All you can do to cope is to accept that everyone else in the class did as terrible as you did and move on. Except for Suck-up Sally, she did well on the test in which the whole class can agree

6. Considering Other Options

Becoming a stay at home mom isn't looking too terrible right now.

7. All Good Things Must Come to an End

Eventually, the six weeks are up and you are free once again. But for only a short while, as the next six week session starts on Monday.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
