Confessions Of An Oldest Sibling

Being the oldest child is the hardest and most frustrating role a sibling can be given. We know it, our younger siblings know it, and even our parents know it, despite the fact that they are 50 percent of the reason why. Regardless, no one can fully understand the struggles of the oldest sibling accept for us.

1. Our parents are clueless when it comes to "firsts".

We are the guinea pigs of the family. Even if it's the smallest step in life like wanting to wear a bra or having your first sleepover, the fear of the unknown overwhelms them and back fires on us.

2. Whenever our name is called a punishment usually follows.

We are the ones to test the waters and to push all of our parents buttons even when we aren't trying to.

3. All we want is to be left alone.

Being the oldest child has so many ups and downs along with the ups and downs of life. The last thing we want is to be annoyed by our parents.

4. We learn at an early age that life is not fair.

Our parents think that they can control us forever, and that we won't ever want to let go, but they are seriously mistaken.

5. It's us against them.

Little siblings are the definitions of nightmares dressed like day dreams. They can seem so cute and act like they are on your side—until they aren't.

6. We are told to set an example for the children.

We don't have time to think about how our actions will affect our younger siblings. We are trying to figure out how to live our own lives because we don't have anyone to show us how it's done. Therefore, mistakes will be made and eyes will constantly role in frustration.

7. We have to assert dominance to gain respect.

We have to take advantage of our size over our younger siblings because soon enough they grow up too. So before they do we have to put them in their place.

8. Being the family rebel takes talent.

If you're going to kick down your parents' boundaries you have to kick hard. It's exhausting and dangerous, but nine times out of 10 it's worth the risk of punishment.

Needless to say we are the most hated family member with all of the s**t that we pull, but life would be boring without us, hence why we are also the most loved. #FirstAndFavorite

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
