Hello, it's me. I have a confession to make. It’s difficult to write, but everyone says that admitting that there is a problem is the first step to resolving said problem.
I am addicted to the Home and Garden Television Network. This is my formal, public confessional. Here I have compiled some of my deepest secrets. If you relate to any of the following disclosed statements, you too might suffer from HGTV-holism.
I appreciate a good granite countertop, but my heart beats faster when I see a renovation that includes butcher block.
If I ever have a daughter, I want to name her Genevieve and then write her letters just so that I can write “Dear Genevieve.”
When asked about my dream boyfriend, I would describe a man who is 6'4", tan, has gleaming white teeth, has a twin brother, and who works either as a real estate agent or a contractor. (To all of the non-HGTV addicts out there, I’m talking about Jonathan and Drew Scott, the illustrious Property Brothers.)
I get seriously emotional when a couple chooses to "List It" rather than "Love It."
I’m planning out my study abroad semester for next year with no guidebooks, only "House Hunters International."
Joanna’s aesthetic has slowly become my own through the sheer amount that I’ve watched "Fixer Upper." I never knew that shiplap and I would connect on such a spiritual level.
Every time that I walk into any kitchen, I mentally enhance it with a subway tile backsplash.
I attempt to predict house prices wherever I travel.
I write this confessional in order to reach out to those who suffer from a similar problem. Unfortunately, there is no HGTV-holics Anonymous for us to attend in order to conquer our addiction together.
However, maybe the power of the internet will connect me with like-minded individuals who also know the importance of compromise and elbow grease when shopping for a new home.
Maybe one day I'll move out of my sorority house and design my own space, but, until then, I will struggle with my situation and live vicariously through the house hunters on that lovely channel.
