As a millennial, we are asked the same questions every month by family and even co-workers.
"Don't you want to have kids soon?"
"Have you guys talked about how many children you'll be having?"
"You know your clock is ticking right?"
And the most popular one, "I want to have a grandchild before I'm too old!"
With how society is today, it's hard for us to even want to think about having kids. Don't get us wrong, a good number of us want to have children and see our families grow. But it's hard. It has become difficult. Loan interests increase, preparing to buy a home can get complicated, and we still may be lost.
Another factor is marriage (and divorce). From celebrities to articles from the Huffington Post, we read about when is it the right time to get married. We are told at this moment we should have children soon, but then asked if we are sure we want to marry this person. It gets confusing, but mostly scary. Just like having kids, we'd love to be able to find the one we love and spend the rest of lives with them. It can just be difficult when we have people having us question everything when we thought we were so sure.
Lastly, our careers. Depending on your major, your career path is set. Or for others people want to achieve and go as far as they can until they feel unstoppable. To ensure we're financially stable to have a family and feel like we're ready to actually settle down when we reach the right point in our career.
In the meantime, we will have pets. We will raise our dogs and cats as our children. We will raise with single or with our partner. We will experience the similar feeling as to how it is raising children or being in a marriage.
