Im sure, last Saturday a lot of people watched Beyonce's HBO special "Lemonade". Everyone was questioning if this was the new album or a documentary or a movie, but in fact it was a visual album. Beyonce gave us all types of life with this visual album by telling us how she felt with Jay-Z cheating on her (allegedly) and how she feels Black women are treated in America. Lemonade by Beyonce started out with a song called "Pray You Catch Me". In this song Beyonce sings repeatedly "I Pray you catch me listening"; this could mean she is listening to a her husband cheat on her while he is on the phone. After she hears this, she goes into an artistic frenzy and she uses here experience to fuel her anger and hurt. The second song is called "Hold Up" and it discusses that there is no one that loves her husband more than she does so why on earth would he supposedly cheat on her.
The album later goes into unapologetic songs called "Sorry" and "6 inch". The video for "Sorry" features Serena Williams and the song talks about how she has no shame and takes pride in being a Black Woman. Fans were glad to see that Beyonce takes pride in her race and gender because it is good to see a Black woman in power vouch for those who are oppressed in America. After these unapologetic songs, the next few songs "Daddy Lessons", "Love Drought", and "Sandcastles". These songs go into how Beyonce's father might have cheated on her mother, Tina Knowles. Beyonce's father and mother have been divorced and her mother has remarried. Beyonce sings about how she deals with this because she loved her father and her mother and probably hated to see them break up.
Near the end of the album, BEY gets back in FORMATION. In these last few songs, "Forward", "Freedom", "All Night and Formation", Beyonce shows us how to get back in "Formation" after dealing with infidelity in marriage within her family. "Forward" discusses how to move forward after stressing and dealing with a lot. It talks about how she has released the stress from her body, but it also has some powerful imagery of powerful black women in America such as Trayvon Martin's mom and Michael Brown's mom. They were featured in the video. "Freedom" talks about how she was set free and how she has been able to deal with what she has gone through that has taken a toll on her. "All Night" ends the visual album and she talks about how she has gotten through it and is now stronger than ever.
The visual album LEMONADE is out now on iTunes and Tidal.
