No one can deny that there is nothing better in life than going to a concert. Nothing beats the feeling of seeing your favorite singer or band in real life. The feeling of being surrounded by thousands of people who are just as passionate about these songs as you are is unmatched. After listening to your favorite songs live, it’s hard to go back to listening to the original versions.
Last month I got the chance to watch my favorite band live, Coldplay. After 10 years of listening to their songs on repeat, I had never been so excited for a concert. The day of the pre-sale, I taught my mom everything she had to do to buy tickets the second the website opened up (I unfortunately had a test at that exact time, otherwise I would have obviously skipped class to do it myself).
I have been to many concerts, yet I had never experienced anything quite like this one. The second the band came out, the crowd exploded. Now, AT&T Stadium, where the concert was held, seats around 80,000 people (not including people who had floor seats), so that is a lot of people if you really think about it.
Before the concert started, everyone was given a light up bracelet. The concert opened up with “A Head Full Of Dreams”, and as the band came onstage and the crowd got fired up, everyone’s bracelets lit up in all different colors, and all at once, AT&T Stadium felt as though it was on fire.
They sang everything from classics such as “The Scientist”, “Yellow”, and “Clocks” (definitely cried during all of them), to newer songs like “Charlie Brown”, “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall”, and “A Sky Full of Stars”, and I’ve never loved Coldplay so much.
Call me basic, but my two favorite songs of the night were definitely “Fix You” and “Viva La Vida”. Now, as a real hardcore Coldplay fan I know these are the songs everyone knows them by, and if you ask anyone if they like Coldplay and they reply with a “Yes I love Viva La Vida!!” you just know they’re fake fans. However, they were my favorite songs of the night simply because of how well they performed them.
When they played “Fix You”, I got actual goose bumps (I’m not exaggerating I promise). “Fix You” was one of the very first songs I remember liking at all. The energy in the stadium was overwhelmingly amazing. The absolute best part was towards the end of the song, when the instrumental section of song begins. I have never seen so many people so excited, singing so passionately, and so full of life.
Now I’m about to change your life. If you’re a real Coldplay fan you obviously already know about this, but if you’re a casual listener and don’t already know, you’re welcome. Go sit in a dark room, and look up Coldplay’s “Live 2012” album on Spotify, and listen to the whole thing with your eyes closed. Again, you’re welcome.
So thank you, Coldplay, for being there on the bad nights, the good days, the jam out sessions, and almost every of my life, and thank you, for the concert of a lifetime.
