Concerts are something that every person should experience at least three times in their life. I say this because with each artist, there is a new way to experience a concert. It is a beautiful thing to be a part of a massive group of people that enjoy a particular art by singing and dancing as a unit in appreciation. Although the people who surround you and the people who you go to see are a big factor in how you experience a concert, there is a factor that is easily looked over: height. As a woman with a height slightly above average, I have come to find that taller people really do have the upper-hand when it comes to concerts.
So the first point on why taller people have this advantage is kind of obvious: being able to see. The best concerts are usually all standing where people can vibe and dance freely without pissing off people sitting down around them. Unfortunately, shorter people get the same disadvantage as the people too lazy to get off their seats. A mountain of heads can block the faces of what you payed $50+ to see. And since those heads also payed that amount of money, the mountain range almost never shifts for you without doing a little push and shove. At least shorter people can wiggle their way to the front easier.... like a rude concert ninja.
During a good concert, people tend to get a little hot and sweaty. The AC or a cool breeze can be felt grazing the drops of sweat on your face giving instant relief, but not for short people. Short people are in a bowl of hot concert goers that just create a wind block. If anything, shorter people just keep getting hotter and hotter as the people around them keep moving. Just remember if you're 5'5 or below, bring a fan and stay hydrated.
The biggest disadvantage of being a short person at a concert is the danger. Yes, I said danger. Fans get really into the experience, and people with flailing around to the music, it is easy for a shorter person to catch an elbow or slap to the face. For the more rowdy concerts, shoving should be expected, so try and bring a taller friend to hold onto. And if you hear the word "mosh pit," run to the nearest group of girls so you won't get swept away into the aggressive pile of adrenaline.
So this is only a article to add to #shortpeopleprobs and to raise awareness for the smaller concert goers. At least the short people can more easily crowd surf and get on shoulders for the best views, so you have that going for you. Just try and stay prepared for your next concert.
