Concentrating In College Can Be Tough

College is about learning. We go to class to learn things and we use what we learn to get our degrees. However, the more comfortable we get in college, the more friends we make, and the more things we have to do the less we want to go to our classes. Hanging out with our friends in our dorm rooms or the school cafe sounds like way more fun than sitting in class listening to a lecture about United States history. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy and convince ourselves to do what seems like fun but it's actually the worst thing for us.

In college, missing one class can be equivalent to missing a whole week. College courses are packed with information to learn and just one 50-minute class covers a ton of important information. Missing one class, though it may seem unimportant and like it won't effect you, it actually probably will.

Now, I don't know about you, but once I miss one class I tend to like the feeling of having nothing to do. I also tend to get used to that feeling and the usually leads to more missed classes. It's a domino affect, especially if I start getting behind on my work. I start getting anxious that I don't know what's going on and I'm too shy to ask the professor, so my old way of thinking was to either "fake it 'til I make it" or "just don't do it". You can probably see where my downfall started. "Fake it 'til I make it" or "just don't do it" doesn't fly in college. Ever. If you don;t understand something you're behind on, just ask the professor! They are there to help you and they want to help you! Trust me, they want you to do well. If you're not comfortable asking the professor, ask a classmate. It may be awkward, but nobody will judge you. You're all in the same boat learning the same things. It's better to ask and get the answers right then to fail your assignment!

College can get overwhelming really fast. Hanging out with your friends and having some downtime is essential, but you need to know when enough is enough. You're with those friends in those dorms because you're in college, not because you're all hanging out in some random building for fun. Classes come first. Try your best not to get behind. I found that day planners are really helpful, not only to keep assignment due dates straight, but also to track meetings and events. Organization is key!

So... go out, have fun, live your life to the fullest! Just remember why you are where you are. Go to class, do your work, and study hard. Trust me, it will all pay off in the end.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
