The day has finally arrived. The day that you have to pick what college you are going to go to. You have gotten into every college that you applied to and you just don’t know what to do. You hear all you friends excited about the school they are going to and it makes you nervous. You start to wonder if you’re ever going to find the right choice. You don’t want to disappoint your parents and you don’t want to be the only friend not going away. Picking a college is a huge decision and it’s okay if you pick a community college.

The stigma against community college can often make people feel ashamed. They feel like they are less then other college students or they aren’t responsible enough to go away. This is all not true. Many people go to community college for different reasons. The girl that got a 4.0 all of high school decided to go because she wanted to save money. The guy that didn’t get into his dream school decided to go so he can have a second chance to apply. The kid that had to miss school a lot because of family issues and didn’t have a great GPA decided to go to get a second chance. Lastly, the girl that did decide to go to a four-year college and did not like the college came home. She then decided to go to community college and loves it.

There will be people that belittle you because you go to a community college. There will be people that think they are better because they went to a four-year. There will also be people that diminish your accomplishments because “its just community college”. All of that is fine because there will people that will support you and love you either way. They will know your reason of why you decided to go and understand.

Its actually really nice to go to community college. You still get to meet new people and do college activities. You can come out of college with no college loans, which is a great bonus. Also, you might start to learn what college you want to go to since you had extra time to think.

It is great to go to a four-year college but it is also great if you decide to go to a two-year. It does not mean you are less then those who go to a four-year. At the end of the day, when you finally decide what four-year college you go to. Your degree is not going to be any different than the person that went there for four years. It is going to say the same thing and it is going to mean the same thing.

Remember, it is okay to go to community college first. Everyone has different reasons why they decide to go and your reason matters. Just because you went to community college first does not mean you cannot be a big CEO or a doctor one day. It is all up to you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
