Common Lies Told By College Students Every Semester

College students might not always show the most promising behavior and habits we are expected to by our parents and professors. What they don't know is that before each semester begins, we seriously do have the best intentions for trying to be kickass students and young adults. Here are a few examples of how we start out strong...and then end up lying to ourselves.

1. Along with New Year's resolutions, we think that we are going to eat way healthier than we ever have before.

But shortly after the semester starts, we realize how broke we actually are and how easy it is to make mac and cheese or order pizza.

2. "I'm going to go the gym every day," said every overachieving naive college student ever.

There's a difference between wanting to do something and actually doing it. We find this out when we are lying in our suddenly overwhelmingly comfortable beds after a long day of classes and studying.

3. After getting lectures from our parents about our potential for getting better grades, we start to believe in ourselves again and continue to strive for the dean's list.

It doesn't take long until we come to the conclusion yet again that getting all A's is harder than parents think.

4. Signing up for new classes is like starting over with a clean slate.

We have chances to meet new people, get to know our new professors and tell ourselves we are so excited that we won't miss a single class! Until the day comes when the only reason you are getting out of bed is because you used up all of your skips in the first month.

5. College students usually think that if they go to sleep earlier, they'll have more energy to do everything not accomplished in the previous day.

Then all of a sudden, it's 11 p.m. and you remember a reading quiz happening the next day. Or it's 11 p.m. and you think "I'll just watch one more episode." Three episodes later, it isn't 11 p.m. anymore.

6. With all of the new clothes you and your roommates accumulated over Christmas break, it's easy to think you'll wear something cute every day for class!

One week into the semester, you realize you are past the point of caring about looks and that you miss your sweatpants.

Moral of the story: we college students lie to ourselves. A lot. But we'll always try our best and maybe by graduation, we will succeed like we tell ourselves we will.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
