They never tell you it isn't going to be easy, graduating that is. It's something you have to work really hard to get to and when the days get closer to that moment, everything becomes a blur. You suddenly don't know how you made it this far. I mean, you do but you don't. You think about your years of schooling, all of the things you learned, memories you made, opportunities you had and all of these things that brought you to this moment where you realize, "I am graduating."
I have always dreamt of this moment and I'm so proud that I am able to say that I'm a college graduate! It didn't really hit me up until a week ago when I started to realize that I will be picking up my cap and gown soon, that I'll be decorating my cap with friends, and that I'll be saying my goodbyes to some really great people. They prepare you for so much in school but they never really prepare you for this. They never prepare you for the moments when you're scared and nervous or the moments that you realize you won't be seeing the same people anymore. The routines that we have become so accustomed to won't exist any longer.
At this very moment, I'm acknowledging that I will be creating a new routine, I will be meeting new people and creating new friendships, I will be a different person, and I will be someone with a degree. We tell ourselves that we are ready, but deep down there are parts of us that aren't and that's ok. We may not know where we are going, but the future is happening. We must take every experience and every lesson learned and use that to move forward and accomplish whatever we set our heart and mind to.
