Finding Dory And Christianity

Do not be like Dory and forget the path to take that leads to home.

Most of us have seen the new movie "Finding Dory" this past week in the movie theaters, but have you thought about how it relates to us Christians? There are several different scenes that relate to Christianity. I will not list them all, but I will talk about a couple of them. If you have not seen the movie, well, I am about to spoil a couple of the scenes!

We all know that Dory has short-term memory loss, because she forgets all the time about what she is doing. When Dory starts remembering more of her childhood with her parents, she remembers that her mother loved seashells. She then remembers that her parents taught her to follow the line of seashells that led her to their home whenever she would forget. At the beginning of her life, Dory went another way that did not have any seashells to follow. Before she knew it, she could not find her parents, and she was in an unfamiliar environment. That led to not finding her parents until she remembered that she even had a family.

Toward the end of the movie, Dory finally finds her parents by following the seashells that they have put out for her to follow at the new place that they found after Dory went missing. Dory's parents welcomed her with open arms when she found her parents' home! When Dory met them, they were ecstatic to see her, because they knew in their hearts that one day they would all reunite. They told Dory that they were upset that she went missing, but they were never mad about the situation.

As Christians, we will often simply get distracted and wander off the path that leads to Jesus. During those times, we often have moments or things which remind us that we need to go back to Jesus. One of those things is the Bible, which God gave us to help us stay on track on the path that leads to Him. If we do wander off the path from Him, God makes it easy to get back on track with Him! It's just like in the movie, in which Dory had a lot of paths to follow to get back home whenever she would become lost. She even found her parents after searching for them all her life because of the paths of seashells that her parents had laid out for her because they knew she would get lost. God gives us a lot of paths to choose from whenever we get lost, because He knows that we will get caught up in worldly things and be distracted. Jesus also welcomes us with open arms when we decide that we want Him and that we want to follow the path that leads to Him! His arms will always be open to us when we want to come home to Him. He will be upset about us leaving Him at times, but He will never be mad at us for doing it, because He knows we will wonder off sometimes from Him. Just like Dory's parents were, they were never mad that she was lost; they were just upset at the fact that they lost her. They knew that she would come back one day looking for them. When Dory found them, they welcomed her with open arms.

Will you stay on the path that leads to God, or will you wander off that path? God is always there for you and will never leave you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
