Going Back to College, As Told By Parks And Recreation

Summer was long. In high school, summer vacation meant lazy days, family vacations, and goofing off with your friends. In college, and full of summer jobs and internships. When it was finally time to go back to school, I'll admit it, I was excited. But the first few weeks are always an adjustment, whether it's your freshman year or any year after that, everyone goes through a process of going back to college.

1. The week before you came back, the anticipation was killing you.

Of course it was! Even though I love being at home, after three months of family time, hometown reunions, and lifeguarding at my neighborhood pool, I was ready to come back to college for a brand new year.

2. Your parents moved you in and you hugged them goodbye, but not before hitting them up for that Chipotle cash first.

Gotta keep those priorities straight.

3. You reunited with all your school friends and you all felt like you were back and better than ever.

I made some of the best friends in the world my freshman year, and after being separated from some of them for three whole months, we were all PUMPED to be reunited.

4. Then you woke up after your first night going out.

After three months at home, I forgot how to college.

5. You forget that you're back at school now, and you have to relearn how to take care of yourself without your mom's TLC.

Mom, can you send some of your homemade mac and cheese please? Also some hugs?

6. You quickly sink back into the bad habits of freshman year, you haven't eaten a vegetable since you left for school, being the poor college student you are, you take what you can get.

Beggars can't be choosers, am I right guys?

7. Somebody brings up that it's time to go to class, but you forgot class was a thing

You're telling me I can't just hang out at college all day? I have to learn something? Crap.

8. Walking into class the first day, the professor tells you summer is over, and it's time to get down to business. You're not having it.

Unless you're talking about defeating some Huns, I don't wanna get down to any business. Can I sit in my bed and watch Disney movies forever please?

9. You go through the classic syllabus week icebreakers.

Weren't we supposed to stop doing these after high school? I can only think of so many fun facts. None of these randoms in my World Politics class need to know that I've never broken a bone.

10. But as the last week of classes comes to an end, you remember that sometimes you gotta work a little.

You tell 'em Aziz. Happy back to school everybody!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
