The Best Comedians Right Now (According to Me) Part 4: Honorable Mentions

The Best Comedians Right Now (According to Me) Part 4: Honorable Mentions
Tom Segura

Here we are again for the fourth and final time. I’m back with the last article in my series about comedians. I have very much enjoyed writing these articles and I hope you have enjoyed reading them. This week is going to be a little different than the last three. I am not delving deep into a single comedian this time. I am going to skim over three people that I believe still deserve some attention even though they aren’t in my top three. These are my honorable mentions.

Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart has arguably been the most successful of all the comedians I’ve mentioned so far. He has had a couple comedy specials on Comedy Central and he has also had two major comedy tours released in theaters. He has also been in every movie made in the last 3 years…not really, but it kind of seems that way. Admittedly his movies vary in quality. He is kind of like the Stephen King of movies. If you make a ton of something a few are bound to be good. The most recent notable movies he has been in are Ride Along with Ice Cube and Get Hard with Will Ferrell. I have not seen either of them, but I hear varying things about them. You either love his movies or you hate them. There really is no in between. Say what you want about Kevin Hart, but he has some of my favorite quotes from his stand-up. “You gon’ learn today!” or “My mom told me to TELL you…” If you don’t know the rest of that quote I would suggest watching the video I will post below. I don't want to take the hilarity out of it because just reading the quote on paper doesn’t do it justice. It is his delivery of everything that makes him funny. He may not make great movies all the time, but he is a funny guy and I think you should definitely check out his stand- up on Netflix. I will leave you with this so you can see for yourself how funny he truly is...

Jim Gaffigan

I remember when I first saw Jim Gaffigan. It was his special Beyond the Pale. The thing I remember best from that is his whole section about Hot Pockets. It makes me laugh just thinking about it. Jim Gaffigan has appeared on a few TV shows over the past few years and currently has his own show called The Jim Gaffigan Show. He has had a few successful comedy specials. He has also written two books. His first book, Dad is Fat, was a New York Times Bestseller and his second book, Food: A Love Story, is also very successful. He is married and has five children which he frequently mentions in his comedy. Jim Gaffigan is a very unique comedian. He does things that nobody else does. The little voices he makes are weird, but when you’re watching it you can’t help but laugh. Here’s a little sample for your enjoyment…

Tom Segura

This is a new guy I had not heard of until my friend Clayton brought him up. He kept badgering me about watching his special on Netflix and I kept putting it off, but one day he made me promise I would watch it and I did. I have to say I laughed hysterically at times. I don’t really know a lot about him, but I really wanted to mention him because I think he deserves a little more attention. He is incredibly funny and clever. Check out his special on Netflix. Here’s a little bit from it…

So those are my honorable mentions for the best comedians right now. Thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
