When I started nursing school, I was definitely in over my head. This was my dream since I was just 10 years old. However, when I started the nursing program at my college, I definitely underestimated how much work it was going to be all in the first year. Here are just a few things that I learned as a first year nursing student.
1. Sleep goes out the window.
Yeah, you'll literally be up to your knees in papers. The things we do to be nurses, right?
2. Your roommate will start to hate that you're always writing papers.
Because normally it's paper writing time at around 3 am. Sorry roomie, I love ya.
3. Study groups will save you.
I am not kidding. Study groups will help you survive your first year.
4. Textbooks are needed.
You may think that textbooks are only used for the first week but nope. You will need those expensive books for the semester. You will need to study from them.
5. Breaks are acceptable.
Please don't always throw yourself into your books because you will burn yourself out. Take time to enjoy yourself and maybe go out with your friends. You will thank me later.
