To The Best Friend Who Came To College With Me

I'm so happy that ours is a friendship that will continue through college.

Not many people have the opportunity to go to the same college as their best friend, but I am so fortunate that I get to spend the next four years with mine.

To My Best Friend Who Is Going to the Same College as Me:

So apparently dreams do come true. While a lot of people constantly mention how friendships drift apart when you go to the same college as a close friend, or assume that you "choose the school because your best friend wanted to go there," I'd like to say that our situation is completely unique and does not meet either of these descriptions. I never could have imagined that after we met and bonded over the same dream school that we would be attending that school together for these next four years.

The fear that other people put into our minds is that we will either prevent ourselves from making new friendships, or that we will form too many new ones that will separate us. I think that we have maintained a healthy balance of meeting new people, hanging out just the two of us, and introducing each other to new friends.

One thing that I truly appreciate is knowing that I have someone who knows me so well already and who lives only minutes away. It's one friendship that is pushed past that "honeymoon phase" where nothing is uncomfortable and we share everything. Homesickness, fears, inside jokes-- they all keep me on track and have grounded me since we started school.

There aren't sufficient words to describe how lucky I am to have you through this college experience. I genuinely don't know what I'd do without you here during this challenging period of transition in our lives that comes with huge change, from living in a dorm to taking extremely difficult classes. Fortunately, I don't have to know what it would have been like to start school without you. I can't wait to explore New York City together, struggle in Chem, and make more memories with you. I am beyond thankful to have you as my shoulder to cry on, the person to make me laugh when I need it the most, and my go-to coffee study date. I'm looking forward to the next four years, and can't wait to see what's to come.

Love,

Your "Friend From High School Who Goes To The Same College As You"

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
