A Week In The Life Of A College Student, As Told By A Sloth

Because these perpetually tired animals are just too darn relatable.

Monday

You have hit snooze so many times you have lost count. The only thought in your mind is sleep - wanting to return to that lovely dream away from the reality that is your 8am class. But you know you can’t skip class again and there are only so many times you can get away with being "sick", so you force yourself to roll out of bed even though it is the last thing you want to do. You quickly realize that yawning is going to be the theme of the day since you can't seem to stop doing it.

Tuesday

This isn't a very eventful day, but you are much better prepared than yesterday. You got up a little earlier so you could have time to get ready in the morning instead of just rolling out of bed and going to class in sweat pants. Maybe today you will actually put on a little makeup or dress less like a hobo. Maybe today you will be productive and get some work done. You tell yourself these things, but instead you relax for most of the day. You still have a whole week to do things, why start them now?

Wednesday

Hump day. Finally the middle of the week has arrived! You actually are a little productive today - go to class on time, look passably attractive, get homework done at a reasonable hour. You finally feel like you are mentally prepared for a school week (a few days late, but at least the motivation is here now). It's a good day today, even if you do feel like you need a 3 hour nap still. By the end of the day, you are in a good mood (besides being tired, but then again, you are perpetually tired).

Thursday

The day has been relatively okay, but at 8pm you suddenly are hit with the realization that you put off that huge paper due Friday in class and haven't done any research for it. You spend all night trying to finish it, throwing together research left and right and crying because you know you won't get close to enough sleep tonight. At the end of the night you tell your bed you are sorry when you finally crawl into it.

Friday

Thank goodness classes are over! The whole day you are just watching the clock waiting till you can head home and take a well deserved nap. You're friends have other plans though and want to stay up all night playing games and drinking. You know you should hang out with them, but your relationship with your bed was strained yesterday so you make the "I'm not feeling well" excuse and dive into your bed. No regrets.

Saturday

You already know today is going to be a good day because you wake up after having slept for 12 hours. You get started on some homework since nobody is doing anything until later at night, but after a few hours of doing homework (a.k.a. being distracted by YouTube and Instagram), you take a quick nap to replenish the energy you have lost from working so hard. Your friends wake you up later and convince you to go out with them. You drink a bit (or a lot), eat some drunk Jimmy Johns on the way home, and have a grand ole time stumbling back into your bed later that night.

Sunday

Sunday is the day of rest, and you maximize your resting by sleeping in again. After last night, sleeping in is needed. When you wake up, you lay in bed for a few hours on your phone scrolling through Facebook and watching YouTube videos until you realize you never ate lunch. And after eating lunch, you crawl back into bed and watch 4 hours of Netflix until dinner time. And after dinner you remember the homework you have for Monday, get sad about it, but decide it isn't as important as going back to sleep. Good night sleepy sloth. Good luck on Monday.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
