If you have even been a student at the collegiate level then you will most likely praise most of this article. If not, then sit back and prepare to find out how hard college is for the millennials.
1. Did you choose the right college, and can you continue to afford it?
There are dozens of colleges in South Carolina, and thousands of colleges inside of the United States. Then the key question comes about. "How am I going to pay for it?" Of course there are loans put they can put you so far in debt. Not to mention, how difficult it has become to get a scholarship. Each semester you stay in college, the more stressful it becomes. You become so worried about paying student fee that you seem to shift focus.
2. Having $5 in your bank account, is not that big of a deal.
No seriously, it is not a big deal. In fact it is a normal. When you really get down to it, the campus has a cafeteria and most colleges offer what some call "cafe cash." (money on your student ID) So in reality, the next best option is to get a job. In fact, get a job on campus. It does get a little difficult to balance school work, work and any other organizations, but most people manage.
3. Course Work
One thing they never prepared me for in high school, is my course load. So. Much. Reading. Everyday its something new. A project for this class, and essay for another and two chapter for another class. Actually, skipping one class to do work for another class is normal. If you ask me, the amount of work is a little too much and just about every professor wants pile up the information at the last minute. Trust me, no matter how long you're in college, it never gets easier, you just find different ways to deal with it.
4. Political Awareness
Simply put we are 'woke', in other words, college students are more 'tuned in' than ever before. We are more acute to what is morally, politically, and economically going wrong in America. This generation is using their voice, and vote to be accepting and understanding. Most importantly, we are taking a stand.
5. Some Kind of Break Down
I'm a second semester junior in college, and I had my first emotional break down last semester. Let me tell you, everything just comes at you all at once. There is a kind of breakdown to some that is just not being able to comprehend everything that is going on around you. Life is moving faster than you can keep up. #ICantEven However, with every college student there comes a time, where all of the late nights come back to you. Sleep is unavoidable and eventually, you will oversleep or crash at the most random time.
Its harder than even to maintain such a full course load and work, not to mention have an outside life and get at least eight hours of sleep every night. Hard work doesn't always give you the results you think you deserve. Still, college can be the one thing to drain the life out of you over the course of 4 or more years, but in the end it can be the most rewarding decision ever made.
