College is a magical land with endless opportunities to try everything that you've always wanted to. If you can think of it, it probably exists. Always wanted to try sailing? There's a club for that. Is community service your thing? You can bet that there's an organization for that. What about underwater basket weaving? I'm sure someone somewhere is working on it. Even though I go to a fairly small school, there seems to be a constant wave of new organizations forming.
Overall, organizations are great. They allow people to pursue their passions, discover new ones, and sometimes there's even an opportunity for free food. There really is no downside.
I have always been interested in trying new things. Trying new restaurants, trying new hobbies, and traveling to new places, if you can name it, I want to try it. I don't limit my curiosity because I never know when I'll find the next great thing. Maybe I do like hockey, knitting, painting, kickboxing, or fried twinkies but I don't know yet because I haven't tried.
This is the age I'm supposed to be trying new things, isn't it? They always say that time flies and you won't be in your twenties forever, so go and try something new while you have the freedom to do so. Before you know it, you'll have the full time job and bills to pay. You'll never have the flexibility that you have now and you should enjoy it. It's great to expand your horizons and pick up a new skill or join an organization you care about.
The problem that I face is that I don't know how far to pursue a new interest. Sometimes I can get so wrapped up in moments of exploring that I forget about previous obligations. I have a burning curiosity to learn more that what's in textbooks. I struggle to prioritize my time for the new experiences and my commitments, but my goal is to find a balance. It's not easy, but as a person that's constantly on the go, I can adjust and still make time to just relax.
I've decided to accept this as a phase of life. Many people my age take time to travel the world and gain cultural perspective. Wanderlust is something that I feel is ingrained one way or another in our generation. For me, I find it in pursuing new hobbies and developing new skill. Maybe one day I'll be settled down in my career and my life and be happy with the same day to day schedule or maybe I won't. All I know now is that there is more for me to try, more to discover, and more to explore. While I still accept and acknowledge that I have responsibilities now, I'm still going to take my chance to experience as much as I can today.
