A College Student's Top 8 Reasons Why Going Home For The Holidays Is The Best

I am sure we can all agree going home is great for many reasons.

Christmas is always a special time of the year, especially for college students. No due dates, no alarms, and no tests. For some, going back to their family's home is not a great experience. To me, however, going home for the holidays is an amazing break from the world of stress that life in college brings me. I can agree with most that spending 4 weeks with the closest members of the family would be very hectic. Although I would rather get angry with my siblings, or parents, then have to study for more classes. These are my top 8 reasons why going home for the holidays is great.

8. Clean Laundry

Any college student knows how to wash their clothes, well at least I know how, but not all actually complete the task. There are times that I have to do a load of laundry just to have clean outfits, but honestly, I mostly wait to bring home a huge stack of dirty clothes for my parents to wash. I still have to fold, but it's nice to know that I can save myself from taking care of another task.

7. Free Gas

When I go home to family, I use quite a lot of gas getting there. Sometime during the weeks that I am home, my parents are nice enough to fill up my gas tank. I love it. Gas is currently cheaper than it's been in a long time, but for students, it's expensive.

6. No Work

Back in Stillwater, I love my job, but after a semester of working every week, it can get old. This is mainly for just being on break, but being at home there is no daily role I have to be responsible for. I will say that I have to do some chores, but don't we all?

5. Grandparents

I absolutely adore my grandparents. Living 2 hours away from then means that I do not get the chance to spend much time with them. I attempt to see them every time I head home. Just today my Grandma taught me how to make Snickerdoodle cookies. Love, all around.

4. Family

Two of my four siblings live away from both Stillwater and my hometown, which like my grandparents, I do not get to see them often. For the holidays all family comes around to share good times. I love getting to see my brothers for a while and enjoying Christmas with close ones around.

3. No Tests

College is great, but classes weigh it down a little. On top of that, tests are my worst enemy. My anxiety is at the absolute worst when tests begin to roll around. My absolute favorite thing about being on break for the holidays is no tests.

2. Sleeping-In

I love sleep. At school, there's a lot of days that I have to wake up to my phone's alarm blasting a marimba being played. Being at home, I do not have to wake up for anything at any time. I do what I want when I want.

1. Homecooked Meals

My stomach craves all kinds of food. Fast food usually does the trick, but home cooked meals are the best thing about going home for the holidays. The quality of the items, along with the deliciousness makes being home wonderful. I could honestly say that the best part about it all is that its free!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
