I’m A College Student Who Doesn’t Act Like One And That’s Okay

It's okay to be a little different.

College is where you’re supposed to let loose, go wild, and act crazy. At least that’s how it’s supposed to be, right? Not always. When most college students are out on Thursday nights (aka college nights!!), you can find me at home, in sweats, either reading a book or binge watching New Girl.

Sure it’s not as crazy as getting tipsy and actin’ a fool at the club, but that's not exactly my cup of tea and that's okay.

Staying out till all hours of the night on Saturday night then sleeping in until late afternoon on Sunday is great for some people. However, I’m a big fan of sleeping in my bed on Saturday night while watching Nick Miller be adorable and then waking up for church to praise that super cool guy Jesus on Sunday morning. To each their own.

Don’t get me wrong, I love to have fun just as much as the next person (I have a mean hand-jive), but you won’t find me out every weekend.

This isn't to say I refuse to ever go out into the real world. I have my nights where I'm all, "Let's go! Let's get semi-wild!" It's just not all that often.

I’m by no means downing on those who go out all the time – you guys do you, I applaud your energy to do all that. I envy your motivation to not only look presentable to the public (lol I gave up on that after my first week of college) but to look presentable and show it off.

All I’m saying is that it’s okay to be the person who would rather spend the night reading a super cool book or watching an obscene amount of Gilmore Girls or even writing articles trying to make all that seem cool. Wink wink.

Of course I went through my phase of wanting to go out and get crazy but every time I went out, I either found myself being the mom of the group or wanting to be home in my own bed. My life of excitement lasted maybe a month (ugh I tried, guys) but that lifestyle just never seemed to live up to its hype for me.

If we’re being honest, I would rather play Mario Kart (Nintendo 64 all the way) or play an intense game of Apples to Apples with a group of friends. Staying in and hanging out just always seems like the better option to me.

Does this mean I’m not a fun person to hang out with? No. Does this mean I’ve failed at being a college student? No. All it means is that I’ve found a different college lifestyle that is better suited towards me. Sure frat parties and clubs are a great time, but they’re a great time for someone else.

Let’s go to a bookstore, a coffee shop, a thrift store, or just stay in and talk or watch Netflix. Maybe my life isn’t that wild, but it’s fitting for me and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
