College Struggles Any College Student Can Relate To

Struggle may always be there for college students.

As everyone knows, college is one of the first things teenagers get to do on their own as adults. Being on our own for basically the first time, we can finally have a say in what we do and it is truly marvelous. With all of the new freedom and about $20 in our pockets, there is plenty we all have to struggle with.

1. We go out, a lot and sometimes we don't even know why.

You think Thursday is too early to go out? College students think it is a perfect time to take time out of stressful schedule and attend the Thirsty Thursday festivities! And because we are paying to attend college, we will go to our 8 AM the next morning. And most of us will overcome the struggle of going to class by wearing sweats instead of pajamas like we wanted to class. That is called dedication in our books and we created some good memories in the process.

2. We might as well be entrepreneurs (or try our best to be).

With all of the rules and regulations given by our housing directors and the enforcers (stickler resident assistants) we learned super quick how to do things the quick and easy way. Whether that is the way we make ramen in a coffee pot or buying multiple visa gift cards for all of our free trials we want online, we struggle until we have the funds to support ourselves with real non-ramen foods!

3. We love free things and do not even care.

Everything free is a blessing. Free food, free t-shirts, free football games. When we hear someone say free they might as well plan for every student at a college to be there. The word free is the best attention grabbing word for any college student.

4. Our socks and underwear dictate our laundry cycle.

We wear jeans on average 8-10 times before actually washing them. And sweatshirts? We wash those weekly-monthly. Everything is pretty chill until we freak out because the laundry ended up being an all day thing.

5. Our studying consists of studying with our book and Netflix in the background.

Daily studying is rough when you have a show you need to watch and catch up on everything. And every college student has had a time or two in their lives where they struggled to grasp any emotion to do schoolwork of any kind.

7. We pay $200 for a book we barely read and get $10 back when we sell them to the book store.

Every semester we struggle to find out how we are going to pay for our “required” textbooks for our courses. We barely look at the books anyways. Each book is roughly around $200. That’s $800 a semester, $1,600 a year. From a poor college student’s view that is basically our tuition.

8. Naps are required and if you don’t have a nap you become not functional.

If we have our classes daily, then we have gym visits, work, and homework. That is a lot of effort and usually is followed by exhaustion. Therefore, we need our (scheduled or not) nap time.

9. During finals going to the library is your social event for the week.

Whoever thought that a library could be where you go to see your friends? Well, as every college student can relate, with your back pack on and coffee (or coffees) in your hand you are ready to face the group for your group project. Or even ready to have a quiet place to finish up your work and study.

10. Tailgating is your weekly favorite.

Without tailgating would college really be college? School pride is essential for every college student. And there is something about dressing yourself up in your school colors, putting on some face paint, and supporting your school that you just can’t get enough of.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
