How To Survive The College Transition

Change is a scary concept. We cling onto maintaining a constant routine in our everyday lives. We feel safe walking into something familiar because we have mastered everything down once we have done the same routine for a long period of time. Change can always be a good thing though. It’s such an exciting feeling that most of our best memories in life hasn’t happened yet. You can’t be too afraid to change life up a bit because you never know what is ahead of you. You never know what God has for us in the future. One thing for sure is that he always has the right intentions for us along the way. He would not take us down a path full of danger. There’s always a purpose in the madness.

It’s been almost a month since I have moved into college and I’ve already had some of the best moments here. Then I realized I have just entered the real world. The days of watching my parents do my laundry, wash dishes, clean, take out the trash, and feed me has come to a close. These are now my responsibilities and I have learned what it means to be an adult. I can’t wait to do my tasks anymore. It’s all up to me. No more procrastinating for anything. I learned so many concepts that will guide me through life. I have gained more knowledge on how to be independent. Being independent isn’t all that bad. Most teenagers can’t wait to move out of the house and have more freedom. More freedom comes with no bed time and no punishments anymore. It’s simple to schedule time to have dinner with friends and always have somebody to study with for exams. There’s no reason to be lonely and bored when you have friends just across the hall. There’s always something to do in college whether that means attending a club meeting or just getting together with friends.

College is nothing like high school. Your instructor doesn’t help you with the work step-bystep. You are expected to follow along in class. You schedule your own classes all by yourself instead of just handing in a paper of what classes you want to take. You have the power to determine what time you want your classes to be and what type of schedule you want. The classes you take in college are supposed to help you get more of an idea of what you want to do in the future and receive the abilities to do what you want. In high school, you were just taking the classes to pass and because you needed to take them.

Of course, transitioning to college from high school was quite the change. I was basically stepping into the start of my future. On the academics’ standpoint, I’m not noticing much of a drastic change because I’ve always had strong study habits. Yes, it’s hard the first few weeks. However, I know that I have already adjusted more and gotten more comfortable as time went on. I’m still unsure of what exactly I want to do in the future, but I know that I’m going to do amazing things whatever the future holds. As much of a change college was for me, I am confident that I will miss college once I come home for breaks. As they say, college makes you appreciate home and home makes you appreciate college.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
