5 Things On Every College Sophomore's 'Grown-Up' Christmas List

As the calendar turns the page to December it becomes official that the Christmas season is upon us. The weather gets a little colder, the radio stations play Christmas carols on a continuous loop, and even the scrooges of the world seem to catch a little bit of the Christmas Spirit. Another tell tale sign that Christmas is here is Santa himself arriving to your local mall. For years my Christmas season would not be complete without sitting on the jolly mans lap and reciting my Christmas list in his ear. Although my Christmas list no longer consists of items such as an American girl doll, even the typical college sophomore has a few things they would love to see under their Christmas tree.

1. Good Grades

Good grades are honestly at the top of the list for a gift any college student would love to receive for Christmas. After a semester of endless cups of coffee, hours spent in the library, and yes even tears, the ultimate gift for a college student is seeing all that hard work pay off when the grades go live just a few days before Christmas.

2. School Supplies

Although it might not be the most exciting gift to find under the Christmas tree, what many college sophomores are actually in need of is school supplies. Pencils, pens, and those ever expensive books that you may or may not actually read all fall into this category. Christmas is also often a great time to ask for things you need specific to your major such as NCLEX study books and even your FIRST PAIR OF SCRUBS!

3. Socks

Yes, I said it, socks. Doing the laundry is one of the most dreaded activities in the life of every college student, and it is often socks which I first run out of, causing me to tackle my mountain of laundry piling up in my power.

4. Gift Cards/CASH

The honest truth is that in between the constant stress of finals, and every day college events, I, like many college sophomores, have literally no clue what I might like for Christmas. However if provided with a gift card, or even cash, I will certainly have fun figuring that question out during a long and relaxing winter break

5. A Good 2017

If there was anything I could ask the man in the red suit for, it would be a successful 2017. With the New Year often comes changes, but the New Year also offers a whole new 365 days to make changes, and even better yourself.

So no, the college sophomore does not sit on the lap of a man wearing a beard and red suit asking for the latest Barbie doll and board game. However, this does not mean that we don't secretly hope that a little Christmas magic might grace its present on to us and maybe not give us the things we desperately want, but instead the things we actually need. So as college students everywhere begin trimming the tree, decking the halls, and baking Christmas cookies, we secretly hope that maybe Santa won't forget the college Sophomore after all.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
