College Is Not How It Seems.

It's less partying and more adult-ing.

College is not how it seems.

I can’t say about every one else, but in my mind, college was just another word for freedom. We all look forward to the day when we finally get to move out and go explore a new city, new college, new friends, new organizations and clubs, new faces, new weather, and everything in between. We all think it’ll be great and we’ll keep in touch with old friends and family. We all think that partying all night will be the best thing ever since so one is there to make you come home on time and do homework or study. We all think making our own class schedule will be the best thing ever. We all think that meeting new people and getting drunk every weekend and going to every football game is a dream come true.

Truth: College is actually just another word for responsibility.

It actually seems to be an endless amount of studying, online homework and quizzes, crying because you miss home, emailing professors, making a GroupMe with your classmates, laundry, washing dishes, paying bills, crying because it’s stressful and your broke, more homework, dealing with horrible roommates, finding time to party and get hammered, then crying because you partied too hard and failed an exam in a class which only has two exams. Sorry, you just failed the course.

It’s hard. College is very hard & stressful. It not all fun and games even if you do go to a “party school” or the so-called “easy” state school. No matter where you go to further your education, it’s difficult because at the same time, you’re learning to be an adult. Im sorry to break it to ya, but the way college is depicted in TV shows and movies isn’t that accurate. You don't always end up getting afternoon classes that you want, you WILL end up with 8am's in your college career.

Don’t get me wrong though, college is a great place to be.

All the negative things I said also have a plus to it. College is where you truly learn what you want to do in life. You learn what type of people you need to be around and keep around in order to prosper and be successful. Your brain will be filled with great knowledge and potential while you major in something great you’d never see yourself even thinking about. You meet mentors and realize how much strangers can actually begin meaning to you.

College is a great experience. While not an easy one, it’s something we should all consider going through. Just remember, it’s not how it seems, but get out there, explore & have fun. You wont forget it!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
