Meeting your roommate for the first time can be intimidating, but if you get lucky enough, you'll be meeting one of your future best friends. These are the phases I went through after talking with and finally meeting my freshman year random roomie.
1. You think you're going to end up hating this girl.
Whether she says she doesn't like coffee or she's a morning person who wants to workout at 6am everyday, there's always those second thoughts that creep up on you right as you're about to move in together.
2. You're surprised how different she is in person.
She's a lot shorter than you imagined- even after you saw pictures after stalking her on Facebook and Instagram weeks before move in day. She seems okay so far, but just in case, you don't want to open up to her yet.
3. You're both suddenly going to dinner together and you realize she's actually funny.
She's not the bland, dry biscuit you thought she was when she always texted a simple "lol" in the group chat instead of "hahaha" or even a laughing emoji. Now you know it's safe to start sending her those memes you saved on Instagram.
4. By the next few days, you two are already inseparable and know the weird details of each other's lives.
You eat together, sleep literally two feet away, send memes on a daily basis, and eventually start bickering like an elderly couple who have been married for 75 years. This is when your relationship gets real.
5. The final stage: you start acting like her.
This is bound to happen: you start noticing that weird laugh she does is suddenly coming out of YOUR mouth, and that word she always uses has become part of your every day vocabulary. Who knew this stranger would become a major part of your personality?
I'm so thankful for my roomie and my freshman year wouldn't be the same without her. Despite our many arguments, I wouldn't want to room with any other girl.
