To, my roommate and best friend:
I want to tell you how in a short year you have changed my life so much.
1. You find small ways to make my day.
The greatest gift you have given me is small notes or rolling off the bottom bunk. Every day is some small thing we find ways to laugh over. "I peacant or I pecan."
2. We find the joy in simple things.
Grilled Cheese. Movie nights. Popcorn. Thrift store shopping. Build-A-Bear. Painting rocks. Friendship isn't a big thing - it's a million little things. That quote stands so true for us. We take all the small things and find ways to make them part of the bigger picture.
3. You have helped me when I needed it the most.
College wasn't easy freshman year nor will be easy any other year, but you are there for rants about certain classes. We both can agree that some professors just drive us nuts. We support each other when we really just want to stop caring about that one class. Here is the thing, though, you and I don't let each other quit. You make me study. You take away my phone sometimes. You don't let me stay upset. You sit with me till I'm done ranting, crying or whatever.
4. Sharing the same major is awesome.
This makes for a lot of shared classes and teachers. We can study together. It also means we have to keep each other engaged when the class gets really boring, and I get to draw smiley faces on all your notebook pages. It's basically my bat symbol.
5. You have helped me grow spiritually.
When I wanted to walk away you reminded me of how awesome God is. When I felt like God was nowhere near you had the right things to say to tell me he's right there. I can always count on you for prayer, bible verses, and words of wisdom.
There are so many things I can add to this, but it would take like ten hours to read it because in one year you changed my life drastically. As the song from Wicked goes... "because I knew you, I have been changed for good." That is so true since we met at move in day. From the day we decided to live together, everything has changed in my life. I have seen myself become more positive and happy.
I am so excited to share our second year of college together. I know that living together is going to be a blast. Even if our idea of fun is making grilled cheese and watching Disney movies all day. Thanks for choosing to live with me despite the fact I may talk through all those movies and hoard the food.
I'm so glad that we both went from thinking we hated each other to best friends.
Love,
Your crazy roomie
