In order to break the profession of procrastination, it's important to first recognize the habits that set fuel to the fire of putting things off until the last minute. It doesn't matter how many hours of reading, writing, or studying are assigned on Friday, a procrastinator will always convince themselves that there will be plenty of time to complete all assignments by Sunday stress-free. This is never the case. Sunday rolls around, the procrastinator rolls out of bed, all assignments have yet to be started, and the dilly-dallying begins. Here are 10 things procrastinators suddenly make a top priority instead of school on Sundays:
1. Binge watching a show on Netflix
It's very hard to focus on reading philosophy when you have the option to watch four straight episodes of Breaking Bad. Plus, Netflix only gives you 15 seconds to decide if you're going to get out of bed and do something. By the time you think about it, the next episode has already started. Too late.
2. Going out for "a drink" with friends
One drink couldn't hurt, right? I'll only be out for half an hour. Tops.
3. Doing Laundry
It's amazing how the amount of laundry you have to do increases with the piles of homework on your desk.
4. Cleaning
How could you possibly concentrate on schoolwork when you're sitting in a messy room? And you just realized that the bathroom counter hasn't been wiped down in a while. You must do that before anything else.
5. Baking
Mmm, chocolate chip cookies. I really need these to study.
6. Creating "study playlists"
You can't study for this test without good music, and you can't listen to good music without a solid playlist.
7. Going to the gym
It's only when you have hundreds of things to do that you realize you haven't been to the gym since last week. You've heard that exercising helps you focus more anyway.
8. Talking on the phone with family members
I haven't talked to Grandma in a while. I better give her a call.
9. Watching random YouTube videos
Wow, why is this cat so cute? I have to watch all of the other "suggested cat videos" also.
10. Taking a nap... or 3
And finally, your bed is never cozier than when you're not supposed to be sleeping. Tip: don't try to do your homework in bed. It never works out.
