Every year, I tell myself that I do not need to do this.
I don't need to draft a list just to forget them by March and throw them out the window. It's a waste of time and disappointment. But goals are healthy, and so in self-progress and challenges. I have had to learn how to set healthy goals and follow through on them. Here is 2018's list, on the internet where it cannot be forgotten or ignored.
1. Improve My GPA From My Last Two Semesters.
Not that my GPA is failing, but 2018 will be the last full year before applying to law schools, and I need to be in median ivy league range. It's going to be hard, but I swear I'm going to do it.
2. Win An Award At Midwest Model United Nations In Saint Louis, MO This Year.
Last year was my first collegiate model United Nations conference, and culture shock is an understatement. This year I'm ready to dominate caucus and draft a kick-ass resolution while acting as my country, China.
3. Go To Office Hours More.
I have a tendency to only attend office hours when I am panicking, worried about a test or paper, or when the professor seemingly made an error in my grade book. I want to be more proactive instead of reactive in this area of my education. It's important to build connections, so that's what I'm going to do.
4. Stop Saying No.
I'm always the friend that has to bail. Whether or its a Thursday night downtown, or an impromptu weekend trip, for one reason or another, I always seem to be the friend that has to watch from the sidelines. It sucks, and in 2018, I want to have more experiences rather than watch my friends have experienced. I'm starting to become a wildly boring person, and I'm too young and too responsible to live a life of a 40- something-year-old.
5. Exceed The Expectations Of My Sisters When Fulfilling My Role As Education Vice President.
I don't want to just get things done- I want things to be awesome, and I want to improve our chapter in whatever way it needs.
6. Gain A Higher Follower Count On My Odyssey Articles.
People read my articles, but I want them to have more shares and likes. I want my writing to be meaningful and inciteful.
7. Create More Connections Via LinkedIn.
I've amped my profile up, so if you see my connection request, know that it was on purpose.
8. Harbor A Meaningful Relationship.
This one will probably be at the bottom of my priority list, as well as the hardest to accomplish. Meaningful relationships energize the soul. My soul is ready for some energizing.
9. Make Some Cuts.
Whether its habits, people, or things, every year I purge more and more of the things that are not contributing to happiness or success or well-being. I intend to do the same this year. Simplify.
10. Try To Look Nicer... Sometimes.
My motto in life thus far has been, "if I can't wear a sports bra with it, it's not going to be a good day". Maybe it's time to change that?
11. Volunteer For A Single Organization More.
Going to Convoy of Hope or Ozarks Food Harvest every couple of months to get required service hours is not a bad thing, but I want to build my resume and my love of helping people further and deeper. By sticking to one organization regularly, I can do this, no problem.
12. Trust Myself.
I tend to go off the deep end when I don't meet my own impossible standards I impose upon myself. It's not healthy for me, and it's probably really annoying to the people around me.
13. Spend More Time At The Library.
I do study and read quite a bit, but I could get so much more done by putting myself in a no- interruption zone for it. I could get the same amount of work done in probably half of the time.
14. Make My Bed More.
I'm not a terribly messy person. But my roommate has inspired me to make my bed more often. It's so much work, but so worth it.
15. Drink Less Soda.
It's free at work, so it used to be easy to avoid soda and now it's almost impossible. I'd like to go back to cucumber water and crystal lite all the way.
