When we first arrived to high school, we expected musical numbers during passing period and romantic love stories like that of Troy and Gabriella. We were young, we were naive, and little did we know how wrong we would be. Similarly, we also had preconceived notions about college.
Here are 17 ways that college is like "High School Musical."
1. Start of Something New
The start of every quarter leaves each student with a newfound feeling of confidence and belief that they will study more than the previous quarter. That thought process is quickly diminished after about two weeks.
2. Get'cha Head in the Game
It's 11:30 and you haven't started that paper that is due at 12. Why write about the history of Hemingway when you could be binge watching "Grey's Anatomy" on Netflix? I think the answer is pretty clear.
3. Bop to the Top
That feeling of finally making Dean's List. You're on top of the world and you are completely accepting (and happy) about the fact that your mother will brag to all that will listen.
4. Breaking Free
That feeling of scoring above the curve and looking down on all those who are merely "average."
5. We're All in This Together
When everyone walks into the midterm, knowing quite simply that you are all equally unprepared. Looking at the first question on the exam and looking up to meet the eyes of other students who are simultaneously rethinking their entire major.
6. What Time Is It?
The first thing you do upon walking into the classroom or lecture hall is locate the nearest clock and remain focused on it until the bell rings once again. The last 10 minutes pass slower than the entire previous hour.
7. Fabulous
Really feeling yourself on a night out. Hair is on point and eyeliner is even on both sides, so you know it is about to be a night to remember.
8. Work This Out
Having been working on the same math problem for the last hour, you know that not finishing it will be too detrimental for your grade. After a quick mental breakdown, you choose to confide in any and all who could have possibly taken the same course at some point in their life.
9. I Don't Dance
The first party of the night. The DJ's music vibrates throughout the entire house as people awkwardly stand in their own small circles and wait for the guys to make the first move. Guys, on the other hand, take the exact same approach and continue to drink until they gain the confidence to show off their dance moves.
10. Gotta Go My Own Way
When you're having a pleasant walk with your friend, but she gets to her class and you have to walk the rest of the way to your class alone.
11. Bet on It
The confidence before going into a final is something that everyone hopes to feel at some point in their college career. All too often, that feeling of confidence is quickly diminished by the first question on the test.
12. All for One
We all know that one kid that likes to show off in class. This is the person that is all work and no play every dang day of the week. This person is the one to mess up the curve for the entire rest of the class just for the sake of their own prestige.
13. Now or Never
The feeling of waking up for that dreaded 8:30 class. The first thought is simply, Would I miss anything important if I slept through the class? This choice determines your sleep schedule for the duration of the quarter. You know that if you don't wake up for the 8:30, you probably won't make it to the 9:30 either. Heck, you probably won't even make it to the 10:30.
14. I Want It All
Everyone's first thought upon stepping foot into the barroom. If you examine closely enough, it is entertaining to watch as a group of girls enter and quickly bee line toward the bar as if they've spotted gold.
15. Can I Have This Dance?
For a girl, it is the most confidence boosting moment of the night when a guy personally asks you, out of all the other girls, to dance. This mean he had been watching you for quite some time, trying to find the right time to ask the question. Only...college dancing looks a little different than High School Musical...
16. The Boys are Back
Maybe it has been the entire summer, or maybe it has been a week, or maybe it has even been a weekend. It is always the best feeling in the whole world to finally be reunited with your squad after (what feels like) an extended amount of time.
17. Scream
All anybody ever wants to do in class. Perhaps it's the fact that the Professor moves from topic to topic within seconds. Maybe it's the fact that the Professor always leaves a small inch of chalk on the board after erasing an equation. Quite possibly, it's the fact that no one ever understands what the Professor is ever talking about.
"I always liked the idea of being in charge of my future. Until it actually started happening." -Troy Bolton
The feeling is mutual, Troy.
